I've got the non-JBL system and I can't pick up any local FM channels in the largest city here in Alabama. This HU absolutely sucks! If I use my XM or Pandora, or any of the other music apps, the system sounds great, or a lot better than HD...when it's not going in and out constantly. Guess its time to save up for a new Pioneer 8000NEX HU!

I'm planning on doing that to mine until I get the funds saved for the aftermarket HU. Just haven't had the time to get by the dealership.

lots of negative things to say about the jbl system. but to its defence, my dad just bought a new silverado and the new silverado system sucks even worse than my jbl system.

I haven't heard the new 2014 tundra system, wow, it must really suck from all the comments I see on it.

I also haven't heard the new silverado/GMC system yet either.

I will say the Alpine in my truck I give a 10/10 for a stock system.

is the new 2014 tundra system worse than the 07-13 premium system?

Can't compare as my 11 didn't have it. I'd say that the JBL is great for 8 out of 10 songs, then if there is a song with heavy bass or layered bass then it distorts the bass so bad it makes me cringe. Almost as bad as fingernails on a chalkboard.

My mom was actually riding with me down to my house and for the road trip she actually commented that it was a really nice stereo. So maybe it's only bad to us audiophiles

I think I will get the MS-8 to see if it rectifies the issue.

Has anyone used Bass blockers on the door speakers? I'm wondering if the would help let the sub do its work. It might be a cheap option but I don't want to do it unless someone tells me it would make a big difference.

it wont "make" the sub do its job. it will limit what the speaker plays that has the bass blocker attached to it.

I only meant I don't have to turn down the sound as the fronts start to vibrate the doors and get pushed too hard and warp.

Yes.

I had a 2007 and 2010, both were JBL/NAV/Premium audio, and both blew the 2014 away.

Boy that sucks,

To the guy asking about bass caps, not a fan as they always wind up cutting midrange as well, also it just won't correct weak sub output. For the life of me I can't figure out why they want most of the bass coming out of the doors instead of the sub, they are bass akward

I took my 14 crewmax with JBL En tune system to a few stereo shops. Looking to upgrade the stock system, keep the the head unit and add an over head console TV.
Most shops recommended new door speakers with separate tweeters, 5 channel amp,new 10" box and low profile sub a sporccesor. They all wanted to leave the dash speakers as is.
Lowest price was $4200 and the highest price was $7600. Ouch.

That is what I am afraid of.

Its just ridiculous as JBL just needs newer code in the DSP in the system and it would sound a lot better.

I am leaning toward this:

1. JBL MS-8 first
2. If that doesn't make it sound good enough for me, I will swap speakers
3. If not enough bass, will add a JL Sub

I thought the system in my old tundra sucked as well, not sure why Toyota can't put a decent sound system in, they just don't get that the bass is supposed to come out of the sub, lol.

Its a Japanese company for dogs sake! Since when can't the Japanese put together a good piece of electronical equipment? Its not rocket surgery.

Look at this beauty.
