I agree 100% with the OP. I'll add fender flares to the "I don't get it" list. They look awful, F your paint up (if you take them off) and don't appear to be useful unless you're building a bro-dozer.

2014 Tundra 5.7 CrewMax 4x4 SR5 TRD Off-Road in bitchin' Red.

Nothing is as it seems. Nor is it otherwise.

Really, I'm honestly trying to get it.
Probably just want to make it the way they would have, if custom ordering was an option (options found in higher trims, but less chrome) for $5 a can

I have to admit, I Plastidip'd my wheels at one point and my grille.

Pyrite wasn't a common color for finding a pre-painted surround and buying a none chrome one and having it painted locally way was $$$.
The grille was an absolute PITA to get off when it thinned out and I decided to remove it, rather than redo it.

Now that I'm 8 years older and in a different financial situation, I would either pay for painted replacements or leave it stock.

I just don't like the looks of chrome for myself. But I also ordered a truck with only chrome door handles and mirror caps, and swapped them with appropriate color matched oem parts.

I think you can, but you have to get it really hot, so it may burn a little.

^ True dat!

I have OEM pocket flares on my 2014 and I totally agree with this statement.
I wish I never would have asked for them.
I'd like to pull them off, but they have left a definite ghost line in the paint that will not be easy to correct.....

I saw somewhere about a trick using a strip of clear bra at the point of contact on the fender. You mark the edge of the flare with one of those body shop markers/crayon and then line up the clear bra with your line. I plan on trying it when I get my 95 pickup painted and the flares installed.

Or buy a Platinum, where Toyota almost (not quite) eliminates the chrome for you.

My next Tundra will be a Platinum (and a 4X4).
the painted grille is one reason I want the Platinum.
Hopefully the 2014 will last me several more years..

As much as I dislike Titans, the painted grilles look so much better than the chrome.

I dislike TP installed backwards and thought it made no sense until I saw this. That is.....if I actually had a cat it would make sense.
