That is cool... I hope you enjoy the new truck. Welcome to the site!

As far as gas goes... I am trying to conserve, but a 24 gallon trip went from about $72 to about $120. If prices keep going like this.... I will not have my truck for very much longer. I am going to need something that can go the same miles with just the difference between what I use to pay and what I am paying now.

My 2008 5.7 Tundra is my economy vehicle. At 18.2+ mixed city/highway so far, its more than 20% better than any of my previous vehicles, none of which averaged better than 15.

Good advice - and pretty much exactly the reason I will not sell mine. I keep thinking I should drive it less, but I like it so much better than my wifes mini van!

Actually Kit you are completely uneducated and sadly mistaken. Exxon Mobil recorded record profits due to record prices of crude oil. Exxon Mobil doesn't regulate crude oil. OPEC, world wide demand, and taxes drive the price of crude up. You complain about oil prices and what we pay at the pump here in America. When the same moronic liberals you voted for ban drilling for domestic reserves in 2/3rds of the country, then you have to import more oil and are subject to OPEC regulating what you pay at the pump.

Secondly, companies like Halliburton are not oil companies at all. They do not produce oil nor do they sell oil. They are an energy service company. They provide various services to aid in optimizing production of oil and gas.

And George W is smarter than most people think. I believe his plan is to utilize foreign oil (maybe swindle the Iraqi's out of the ever so rich Persian Gulf) and let foreign countries run out long before we do. Right, now we produce and store natural gas in facilities where they actually reinject it into the ground. We use only 20% of what we are producing and import the rest. Therefore we will still have ample supply when everyone else is running out.

Lastly, the oil industry in general is cyclic there was a boom in the 80's and then dropped down to under $10/barrel in the late 80's. So, they have to make profits while they can. There is no telling what the future may bring. Also, the higher price associated per barrel of crude the more feasible it is too drill in areas that before oil was 145/barrel they wouldn't dare to because they would be losing money cause it would cost more to produce than what they would make off the well.

Also, if you are whining so much about rise in gas prices why are you driving a gas guzzling beast of a truck as the 5.7L Tundra? Why not protest against the rise in gas prices and drive a prius. And on a side note back when I worked for Halliburton during our introduction training sessions, they would tell us that if people gave us dirty looks or made a completely uneducated remark about Halliburton and Oil or Gas Costs just look at em laugh and say well hey I get my gas for free so I really don't care. Lol. This isn't really the case but its a good one to roast some liberals asses.

Interesting article. Almost makes it seem as though I should have kept my RAM since it was only 5 years old with 38099 miles on it. But honestly I wanted something that was going to last forever and a Toyota does that. Our 2004 4Runner is a workhorse, packing in 78000 miles already, and those are OUR miles too.

If you want to talk record profits take a look at how much money the oil companies get out of a gallon of gas.

Rough figures show about 8 cents per gallon for the net oil company profits, figure around.70 cents gross whereas the Government, Federal, state and local suck up around .70 cents per gallon. These are rough numbers that I believe were based on $3 per G gas, the rest is split up to refine, haul, etc etc.

Maybe it is the taxation of the fuel that we should examine a little closer rather than acting like a bunch of communists and targeting private industries and/or the Republicans.

For me, I just went from an F150 to my Tundra and they average about the same with my heavy foot, 15MPG.

I am just resigned to the fact that I will use more fuel than others. I need my truck to tow toys, hunt and haul stuff, not for work, for personal. I bought a third car just to drive to work, a little Mazdaspeed3. Great car, 25MPG with almost 300HP but I felt unprotected in such a small vehicle so I sold it and I am back to driving the truck. I just work at home twice a week to keep the driving down a bit.

Just put in my first tank of gas into my new 08 Tundra, 5.7 with 4:30 gears, 4wheel drive, ext. cab. All types of driving from 2 wheel to 4 wheel low. 15.62 M.P.G. I'm happy. One hell of a truck.

You know we are paying too much for gas when pay at the pump maxes out before you get your tank filled. That hurts.
