I agree. Up here in New England with all the snow ( 120" IN THE WINTER OF 2007 ) a 4x4 is a plus and sometimes a must. Welcome to TUNDRA COUNTRY

4x4 - I live in Massachusetts at the top of a small private street - the town agreed to plow us out, but we're at the end of the list. Also use a fairly steep slimy boat ramp so it makes me feel a little more secure - I've seen a few cars get very wet there

I am kicking myself in the ass everyday for not getting the 4x4 model, because the wife wants me to get rid of my 86' K5 Blazer I thinking with a winch and 2wd I will be ok. I use to wheel my 2wd 01' silverado with a rear locker everywhere a 4wd would go. Well..... almost everywhere.

I live in flat Florida and my truck is always on the pavement so I went with the 4x2. Also budget was an issue

Living in Idaho, you never know what kind of weather you'll be driving in so the 4WD is a must. Its also great to have for pulling out tree stumps, and for pulling cars, trucks, and SUV's out of ditches in the winter.

I hate to shift all the time, and I hate diesel in pickup trucks. So.. I guess they only matter if it is important to you personally.
Well when would you really use 4WD auto? None of my trucks have ever had that option, and I've never really seen the use for it. My trucks have always been either in 2WD or 4WD, and I've never had an issue of getting tired of pulling the lever in or out of 4WD. I rarely use the 4WD anyhow, but when I do use it I really need it. Ford only offers the "auto" mode in their SUV's, Chevy does offer it in their trucks but then again its a Chevy, they can't handle any severe usage anyhow. Dodge did offer it in the Dakota's for a while, but found out that it wasn't a great seller.

I have a Jeep that's full time 4WD, and its nice in the winter, but it would be even nicer in the summer if it wasn't.

Don't necessarily need 4x4 up here, but it sure is nice to have on those 30"+ days...I figured I might as well go all out if I was gonna get it. Never know where I'll be next.

Alaska never gets snow right????? LOL. I can see your point though, if your going to get one you might as well get what you want. I don't know how it is where you live, but here in Idaho 4WD is considered a safety discount. Don't know how that is especially seeing all the morons with their $60,000 SUV's and trucks sitting in the ditches along the highways during the winter but hey it saves me money, and I make money in the winter pulling people out of ditches.

haha...yeah I have a 4X2 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I naver have a problem during the winters here...I put studded tires on it for the winter, but I never get stuck or end up in a ditch (knock on wood)

Like you said, its the driver mod required vehicles that I see in the ditches and snow banks...LOL

These trucks are very stable IMO. My last vehicle was a small 4 cylinder, and driving this thing on the highway feels pretty good and safe. Sucks gas but hey... it's worth it.

I LOVE MY TUNDRA!!

My personal opinion is if you plan on wheelin, get a Taco, More fun when it comes to steep inclines, and much easier, cheaper, to equip and wheel

Has anyone done a 4x4 conversion on an 07 or 08 Tundra Double Cab? I might have to check T.T.O.R.A.
