Honestly, only had it for a month and right now I would say no. If I could get rid of it without taking a loss and go back to Dodge then I would without blinking.
189 miles and the CEL light comes on and now some 1500 miles later and 4 trips back to the dealer they think they might have found the problem with the charcoal cannister. Plus all of the paint & rust issues doesn't bode well for the truck living in the North East |

Yes So Far
I just hope its going to be better than my 04 2500HD crew. 3 transmissions, 1 transfer case, 1 power extending mirror, 5 oil leaks, mouldings falling off all 4 doors in the hot sun, driveshaft, pinion brgs, and now a torque converter failure, all in 50,000 miles. All mostly highway miles. GM has a quality issue on this truck, in my personal opinion.

I've only had mine for 6 weeks, but this is the most comfortable truck I have ever driven. I've had no issues at all but have only put 1,000 miles on it.

I hate the paint....worst thing on truck as far as durability and it will look like crap in 3 years. Interior plastics are soft and scratch easy.
I buy them to keep them until well over 200 thousand miles, this crewmax is going to look terrible inside and out when it hits 200,000. Differential leak fixed, clock fixed. ENGINE AND TRANNY GOOD SO FAR! Had to finish on good note.... To answer question, undecided. TOYOTA COULD HAVE DONE BETTER WORKMANSHIP AND ON MATERIAL QUALITY I.M.H.O.! I HAVE 12,000 MILES, NEXT ONE WILL PROBABLY BE F SERIES LIKE PREVIOUS ONE I HAD FOR 9 YEARS. Last edited by EVOL ARDNUT : 04-22-2008 at 05:34 PM. |

I'm new to this site and not surprised that there would be a few owners not
happy with there tundra. But with the volume of them built, there's bound to be a few problem's.But for me I'm a new 07 dc tundra owner and it now has 20335 miles on it and has been a dream truck for my wife and l.My son is close to getting his drivers license and can't ait to drive it.Also l'v been a big hit at work and in my neighborhood,The only thing i'v not done is tow it truck but man the truck rock's and has ton's of horse power,so l'm sure there won't be any problem's pulling a trailer. For anyone with a problem with a tundra truck hang in there the truck still rock's and ford's and chevy's have there proublems too.... |

I traded in my 2005 150 and I am A little bit dissapointed with this new truck {2008 tundra 5.7 trd} I have three rock chips in the hood {5 weeks old} cause the paint seems like it is to thin or brittle, transmission hunts for proper gear when it is cold in the morning, and that stupid dinging for the seatbelt will be the last straw. Other than that i love the truck, pulls like crazy, and it looks great {accept for rock chips} Hopefully I am just having bad luck with the chips. I am undisided.

I'd buy again in a heartbeat, even though I've had the torque converter replaced, tranny seems to hunt gears, the radio is sometimes touchy and the paint seems to be a little on the light side. Why would I buy Toy again?
#1 Service While some would say I shouldn't buy expecting service issues to come up, but the reality is stuff happens with all manufacturers. How it is handles after the fact is a big deal. Remember ignition switches that caught fire, remember suspensions & transmissions that failed, all from the factory? I'd rather not feel like I'm at the mercy of a service manager who is tightening ranks when sales are or get slow and the only way to cover his/her bets is to squeeze every drop of cash out of its loyal customers. #2 Longevity Everyone knows how Toyota is known for its durable products, starting with the corollas of the early 80s. They didnt get to be #1 in European sales by putting out garbage. Not that it cant change, but I think time will tell just how reliable these trucks really are on average. If you had to pick between 4 vehicles of the same year, any model, all from different manufacturers, all with over 200k miles on them, would you not pick the Toyota? For those who are a bit unsettled about the powertrain, here's a repost of some much needed info I had posted elseware: Most who have had the Torque Converter issue notice it in the first 500 miles. Pardon the long explaination (not a communication major), but I think it is warrented as I know others have similar concerns about the transmission that they just arent voicing and this information is critical to understanding the queezy feeling you get when it seems to be "hunting". There are some major differences in the new transmission technology in our trucks, as compared to the traditional ones - namely where the decision is made to shift, and to what gear that shift is made to. The shifting in the 6 gear Tundra transmission is done by program decision, rather than mechanical decision as in the traditional transmission. How does that make it feel like there is something wrong with the truck? read on.... The Good and Bad of Traditional Transmissions Traditional transmissions, which we are all used to, shift at a pretty consistent, predictable point, with little or no hesitation -that is both the good AND bad of traditional transmissions. If you have ever driven a stick shift, you know that you shift up at a certain sound coming from the engine to accelerate to maximize gearing. When you shift down to slow down, you are listening for a different sound, one that wont make the engine over rev and break the engine. Consider trying to accelerate at the same shift points when slowing down as speeding up. Fixing a traditional transmission typically involves a mechanic's familiarity with the transmission, and more often than not, needs to be torn apart to diagnose. The New Electronically Controlled Transmission With an electronically controlled shift, there are no limits as to when a shift can occur, and in fact, they change based on the driving habits of the driver if your smart shifter (ECM=Electronic Control Module) is smart like ours is. So why not just use the mechanical one? There are advantages to be gained in acceeration and/or MPG by having a smart shift adapt and tune itself to your habbits. If you're a jack rabbit starter (like I am), it may move the shift points lower into the 0-40 categrory for more low end torque. If you are an almost all highway driver, you will get higher shift points as you will be doing more acceleration from 45-80 than you will be from 0-40. The electronic shifter with it's on board diagnostics is easier to monitor and troubleshoot, though the end result will still be a dropped tranny for repairs, at least the guesswork is taken off the repair bill, if needed. Heres why all this was important Since our tranny has to adapt it's shift points, it goes through a learning stage. Some owners have had no problems at all, but then they may have never had a reason to disconnect the battery, which resets the ECM to factory defaults. It will shift more clumsy after an ECM reset until it learns or re-learns your driving pattern, but eventually settles in. If you change your driving habbits often, then this might also cause some hesitation as it is adjusting to your new driving style. I sometimes think that it changes to often, but I am sure they have optimized it. I'm sure as this becomes more commonplace technology in the Auto Industry, the on the fly tuning abilities will improve. I have to keep reminding myself that there isnt a problem with the truck as obvious by my previous post decrying a problem, but this is the heart of what ails us. On a side note, the Auto Industry uses smart technology in it's production of vehicles as no 2 trucks are 100% identical (as no 2 people drive the same) - think adaptive laser guided screw driver on the end of a robot arm. |

That suck's when you spend so much money on a truck that you decide to buy and then have paint problems right off the start. It takes the fun out of buying new truck. After over 20,000 miles on my 07, it's been perfect in every aspect and the paint is holding up fine and l'm very picky about my truck and if i had some of the problems as some have had ,l would be ticked on a 30,000 plus truck you expect to be perfect or at least no problems for the first 3 or 4 years, what happened to o what a feeling toyota lives by......

What was wrong with your front diff? My 06 Silverado was making a whomp, whomp, whomp noise which the f*c*stick service person could not hear, then blamed it on my BFG AT's when he did hear it. What a jerk. Was finally replaced and began making noises again, replaced a second time. Is making noises again in 4x4. Im fed up.
