Tundra Saurus - After making a tactical error, I ended up with 22x10 Rockstars with Trail Grappler M/T 295/55R20's. I have a Truxxx 3/1 leveling kit.
From this experience, I learned (or I was biaaa@ch slapped with knowledge - either way):
1) offset of -24 puts out the tire 2", maybe 2 1/2". Bad choice. 20x10 Rockstars only come that way... however 20x9 come with a positive offset. So, now I ordered Pocket Flares to put the wheels under cover (another $426.75 to justify to the old lady).
2) 10" width rims are a great look. They keep the side wall of the new Trail Grapplers really firm and flat, which is really nice. Bad thing - the combination of the negative offset and the wheel width causes rubbing in the rear side of the wheel well on the end of the frame at full lock. That was with a Ready Lift 2.6" front level. Off with that, and go get something bigger.
3) Ready Lift said that the block lift is designed to "fit any 33" tire," but they failed to mention "on an 8 1/2" rim" in their ads. Move to the Truxxx lift, another $367.41 and evil scowl from the old lady.
4) I still have rubbing in front of the wheel well at full lock also. I had to take off the inner fender skirt (not sure of the technical term). However, with these removed, the fog light guts are exposed. With winter and mud coming, well, that just ain't gonna work out good for the home team. I will try to reverse the two covers (switch left to right backwards and vice versa) this weekend. Only to save the fog lights from damage. I will invest in a Fab Four Pre-Runner bumper, another $2400 in the can - wife has informed me of impending "draught."
Picked up a night job to pay for the Fab Four, and I'm a retired veteran.. so I get a discount. Insert smiley face here.
Oh... almost forgot. Once the extra weight from the new bumper and winch get figured out, hmm. I need new shocks. OME coil overs to support the additional weight. I lost track of cost after $400 on those, because I'll also need an additional leaf in the back, or some 1" shocks to deal with the additional weight in the back.
What additional weight in the back from a front bumper? Well, of course you can't put on a front Fab Four winch Pre-Runner and not put a matching back bumper. Drop another $250 for rear shocks and leaf spring AAL and $850 for the bumper (that's with the sympathy discount).
All that from the wrong size wheel / tire combo. It doesn't bother me much, I've found solutions to all the difficult problems. My wife doesn't see it that way, however. Good thing I like the truck more than her.
