Poll: Tire Decesion its a heated one
So ive been going back and forth between these forums and tire rack and Im close to making a decesion,
every time I go to Tirerack I read a new review which changes my mind, Im looking for an All terrain that wont kill my performance, mpg, has good tread life, has good traction all around, and looks decent, i do mostly commute to and from school, occasional snowboard trip, and live in socal. in 33" Kumho Road Venture Michelin LTX AT2 BFG T/A KO Firestone Destination Yokoyama Geolander its driving me insane, please give me your thoughts or send me a straight jacket. |

iv had experience with 265/75/16 yoko geolander at, 285/65/18 bfg at, and 285/75/16 bfg at
the yokos i had on my ranger when i was in college. they were cheep, and all i could afford at the time. they sucked in the snow and ice, did ok in mud and sand, and wore out fairly quick. i believe they were only 6 ply, but it was on a ranger. i would never buy them again unless i couldnt afford something better. the 285/65/18 bfgs i had on my frontier. they were great tires all around. no complaints other than they threw rocks like crazy. if you drive alot of gravel, i wouldnt suggest them. i had 35k miles on them when i got rid of my frontier, and they have about half tread left. would i buy them again.....i dont know. they are a great tire. but like i said, they throw rocks BAD. i had rock chips all over my frontier. and, they are f'in expensive. the 285/75/16s my dad had on his F250 powerstroke. he is a rancher, and drives gravel roads and is offroad all the time. and alot of these times he is pulling a stock trailer with a load horses or cattle. these tires could not handle it. i dont know if they are too soft or what. chunks literally fell out of the tires. on ever lug it looks like someone took a knife and rounded the edges of it off. they just couldnt handle the extra weight of that heavy truck and loads. my dad got 10k miles out of them, and they looked like hell. he took them back to where he got them, and they sent them to bfg. they said there was nothing they could do about it. i would never use them in a "work truck" application.

I say Nitto terra grapplers. They are made by Toyo, much much cheaper.
2nd choice would be the BFG's

I dont know how long the life is on the Toyos I paid 395 each mounted and bal. for a 35x12.50.20 I am hoping to get at least 40,000 out of them however the cooper sst or is it stt looks almost exactly like the toyo mt just a little more round rather than square.. and they are less money. the toyos are a 10 ply load range e tire so make sure you are comparing apples to apples most Bfg's are only a 6 ply lod range d

For what your using them for, it would be a waste of money. You don't need an aggressive MT. Plus if you plan on using the Toyo mt for alot of offraod driving you will be very dissapointed in the life of the tire. I got 25,000 km's on mine and they are not looking good. I say go with the BFG.
