Hub Centric Wheels
For those that have purchased aftermarket wheels, have you had any problems with vibration through the steering wheel because the wheels will not balance properly? If so, what wheels are you running on your truck?
I want to get a set of 18x9 inch aftermarket wheels for my Tundra, but I hestitate to do so because the last time I went with an aftermarket wheel for a previous toyota truck, I could never get the wheels to balance. I went from shop after shop, and while the tires always appeared to be balanced on the shop's equipment, in time I would get this annoying vibration through the steering wheel. Finally, a toyota tech told me that most aftermarket wheels are not "hub-centric" and that my aftermarket wheels probably were balanced based on the shop's equipment but unless they are "hub-centric" they cannot be balanced properly for a toyota. I eventually went back to a toyota factory wheel and had no issues with vibration at all.

Between my 2000 Tundra and my 2007 Tundra I've had 4 sets of aftermarket wheels and zero issues. Hmmmmm

I ran Weld Racing Wheels in the past which proved to be a true round rim but was not hub-centric. Weld had a great look, but simply would not balance. According to my dealer, the only aftermarket wheels they sell are Enkei, BBS, and Acola which are hub-centric and made to toyota specs. Unfortunately, none of these have a 18x9 wheel. Well, at least that I have been able to find.

Thanks guys for you help. My toyota rep told me that Enkei makes an 18" wheel...not sure if it is 18x9. I really want 18x9s to help fill up the wheel well with the fender flares. Enkei 18" wheel looks ok, but I like KMC's XD796 Revolver in the Chrome finish much better. Performance Products.com has them for $270 ea. They have a two year chrome warranty. It looks like several guys have KMC and Procomp Wheels. I hope the chrome finish on the Revolver hold up over time.
