Wider tires on my stock 20's - effect on transmission
So I called NTB to ask about getting wider tires on my stock 20" alloys and the guy told me to first go to the dealer to get them to reset the computer, because the wider tire will "screw up" the transmission.
He said that he knew a mechanic for Lexus that had a Tundra and that guy said he would never put on wider/bigger tires due to the effect on the transmission. Anyone know anything about this? Also, assuming there really isnt much to worry about, I want a beefier tire. I don't care too much about the diameter, more so the width. Any suggestions? |

I put 305-50-20 Yokos on mine with no prob. Same diameter will have no effect on a tranny.

Your not going to affect the transmission that much if any. It's nothing compared to the guys on here running 35's/37's. You having nothing to worry about. What size do you want to install?
Can fit these on stock height 305-50-20 32 305-55-20 33 275-60-20 32 I'm sure theres others the 305's are the most popular. |

I have 285/55/20 on stock rims . They did not rubb at all , until after I got my lift . I then had to trimm the skid Plate . My tires came stock as well as wheels . The problem with my rims are the offset if I went with anything taller on this rim in the 55 it would rubb the upper control arm. a 60 series would fit .

Tire size
I'm running a Goodyear Wrangler ATS 275/65 20 and there is still a hands width between the tire and control arm with stock rims and the toytec 3"
I too had to trim the front skid plate though Last edited by drillrx : 06-29-2008 at 01:52 AM. |

BFG is the hands down winner for some.
Nitto is a bargain for some. Either way both tires are decent. But the Nitto is a harder/rougher tire. BFG is the quieter tire and softer tire. If you can't afford the BFG get the Nitto. If you can get the BFG. Either way, the difference is for a lot of things: BFG Looks Off Roading Quiet for an A/T tire pretty soft tire heavier so loss in MPG Nitto Looks not that great Off Roading Good Quiet for an A/T tire Stiff/Rougher tire lighter so slight if any loss in MPG |

Nitto's out of those 2 are my suggestion. Id look into an M/T tire for a good aggressive look like the Toyo Open Country M/T
