Am I getting hosed?--tire pressure sensors

What's up lads? First time post. I have an 08 Sr5 and I am doing the following:
1. New wheels--18 inch American Racing Marin Black
2. New Tires--35 Toyo Open Country
3. 2.5 inch leveling kit

My question is on the labor charge. The guy quoted me at around 400 labor for the leveling kit, alignment, and putting the tires on. He said that the tundra was tricky because of the tire pressure sensors, and that added extra onto the price. Is this true?

I found a shop that would install the leveling kit and wheel alignment for 260, and I don't feel I should be charged for balancing and mounting. Even Discount Tire doesn't do that.

The total price for everything was 2500.

What do you guys think?

Michael

also, have you heard of this leveling kit. on sale right now for 99.

Why would you feel that you shouldn't be charged for the mounting/balancing of the tires/wheels ?

I'm just curious. I manage a Goodyear store and off the top of my head do not know what the flat rate labor rate would be on the leveling kit. I could take a wild guess and say appx 1 hour per side.

So it would go something like this.
$80x2 for level kit labor.
$99 for Specialty alignment (altered suspension)
$20 x4 for a LT Specialty Dynamic balance
(adhesive weights/no weights on outer wheel flange)
No charge to swap the sensors/mount tires if you purchased tires/wheels from me.

Keep in mind these shops do not make money hand over fist like people assume , some months your happy to break even.

The expenses are grossly underestimated. Every morning when we roll up the door we're $3k in the hole and have to sell your way out of it.

Sure they could of just added $20 per wheel and said that the price includes mounting/balancing but i would just prefer to itemize everything.

/rant off

post pics after the install !

PS: Id have them align it after the lift with the OE wheels on it to avoid any chance of scratching the painted wheels then mount the Marin's.

That makes sense. I guess the other places just include it in the price. Fair enough. I will post the pics when it is finished.

A good friend of mine owns a Big O Tire store. He charges roughly $10 per wheel & tire for mounting & balancing if the purchase is made through his store. If you were to purchase from another competitor and bring to his store, the cost would be double. His labor rate is $85 per hour. He charged me $85 to install the leveling kit and mounted & balanced the tires for free.
