Question I some input here

(dam title errors..)

well trying to get new wheels and tires keeping the cost low has been very difficult. The stock michelins (255/70 R18) are good quality tires for my needs, which is mostly city/highway but they look like donuts in this truck I want to get rid of the steel wheels as well.
I want a decent good looking tire (agressive looking) and I want 18s (I decided on the Gear Alloy 712 injector black). After searching around for so long I am thinking on getting the BF Goodrich Rugged Trail T/A 275/70 18R.
The diameter of my wheels will change from 32.1 to 33.2 . I like the look of this tire and its price.

I am not willing to pay $250++ for all terrain tires, which I wont really use like many of yuo do

I am aware this is the same tire that comes with the off road package (just bigger) and I want to know if these are good tires? am I improving my truck or wasting my money here?
will my mpg be affected greatly?

one of my friends told me that I am wasting my money and that I should keep the brand new michelins but I hate the way they look.
I bet those suckers will last forever, don't think I can wait that long without new shoes...lol
I really need some input guys.....
thanks in advance

That tire is a pretty decent tire. It's good for some light off-roading and rugged trails. Nothing major though. A lot of people say the tire sucks and everything. But in reality it is an okay tire for the price. Have you checked into the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors. Excellent traction, off road, and great puncture resistance. I would recomment this tire in that size because it's still under $200 per tire. Even though not that many people have that size don't be fooled, it's an awesome tire.

You have also chosen an odd size where there are not many choices for that tire. Seeing how you don't want to spend $250 per tire your limited on choices.

Tirerack.com has them for $192 a tire. Just print out the checkout page where it tells you the price and take it somewhere like discount tire, sears, or somewhere that matches prices.

I like my Nitto Terra Grapplers. They look real good but I don't know if you can get them in that size?

thx for the replies. The thing is that I am also considering possible mpg loss. The BF rugged trails seem to be lighter and that size is gonna look better than the stock one+I also like the look of the tire. Just wanted to see if it's worth it. are they better than the stock michellins?

I was thinking of staying around this size to avoid heavier tires.

They are both okay tires. Niether is for much off roading. That size is the most height that is a 33" and will fit without a leveling kit. Look into the Silent Armors. $200 per/tire. Very good tire. The Goodyear is an All-terrain.

thx kit. I have been reading some reviews on the Silent Armors and they do appear to be good tires. I am considering those now.
