I've tried it all, nothing works. The rubber in the A/T's is too hard, that's why you can get 80k out of a set. One trade off for another I guess. You could get extra siping for more biting edges but you still have the same 'no flex' problem.

Ya I've gone through many sets of BFG A/T's and alway's got high mileage out of em. I'm from L.A Cal and you very rarely deal with icy conditions, only in the local mtns.

I swear by the BFG A/T's. I had them on my 93 toy and I got +85K miles out of them. They were great in the mud and snow.

Do Toyo, Nitto, Yokohama or any others come close to comparing with the BFG AT's? I don't know cuase my last three sets of tires were the BFG's. But Im looking to change and maybe get something lighter.

If you want something lighter and very good in snow and something not as aggressive as the BFG KO, then take a look at the Firestone Destination AT, or the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor. The Goodyear Silent Armor is overlooked a lot because not as many people know about it. The BFG KO is a great tire I am not knocking it but if you want something comparible but at a cheaper $ then read up on them. I wouldn't recommend the Nitto/Toyo for snow. You can do so but at your own expense. The Silent Armor/ Firestone come in the stock 275-65-18. So the tires would be stock size but be lighter than the BFG's which is what you are looking for. The BFG KO is great tire if you want to spend the $$$. I would recommend the Goodyear Fortera Tripletred/ or the Revo but those are strickly winter tires and the Fortera TT is offered in that size. Depends what you want man. Whether you want strickly winter tire or an all terrain tire.

^^ Nitto has there Terra Grappler most bang for the buck. Toyo has there All terrain which is a little more $$ but very impressive and Yok's have there Geolanders which are decent but I wouldn't buy them. BFG's you shouldn't even question. BFG hands down looks/durability/reliability. But they come with a price. It really just depends how much you want to pay. The more you pay the better all the way around. The less you pay you only get certain qualities. They are all good tires just depends how much you want to spend on shoes. Think about it. All of the following are proven tires some more than others but in general good buys. There are others so if you want to fill in more guys go for it. Also in no real order just a list of proven tires.

Toyo AT
Nitto TG
Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor
BFG KO
Firestone Destination AT
Pirelli Scorpian ATR
Bridgestone Revo
Michilen LTX
Goodyear Fortera Triple Tred

In 1999 I bought a brand new 2000 4.7 Tundra and the first set of new tires I bought for it were BFG A/T's. I got 80k miles out of em and they still had enough tread left to sell before I got new ones.

I'm lovin my BFGs so far, but I'm having a bit of trouble balancing them apparently. I dunno why. Lots of vibration in the steering wheel at 60+ with my PSI at 38 all the way around. I need to take it back to them.

However, they're great for everything I've thrown at them. I will be able to see how they do in the snow next X-mas. No matter what, you pretty much have to go slow on ice.

I think the possibility the stock tires are so bad in the snow is because we have 401 lb ft of torque to get this beast moving. Not a lot is going to solve that. My old Bridgestones were SO bad that I drove my Expedition in the winter with old tires with like 40K miles on them. Never had a problem in that car in 2wd or A4WD.

Check out this link: Michelin LTX A/T 2

I've always had good luck with Michelin's, but they tend to be kind of expensive. They make up for it by being long-wearing and smooth running.

I've got a set of LTX M/S's on my old Chevy pickup, but they don't come in a size that fits the Tundra. However, the link above for the LTX AT2 sounds interesting. Also, you can get them in load range E, which provides an extra margin of safety.

What about MICHELLIN CROSS TERAINS IN COMPARISON to the A/T Michellin tire for the road only, no snow?

Balancing can be a common problem with these. I have dealt with it myself. Took the truck to a different shop and they took one of the tires and put it on a different rim. Sounds silly but it worked. No problems after that. Another guy I work with had loads of problems balancing these tires on his Ford F-150.

You really need to find someone with sensitive ballancing equipment. BFG's are a heavier tire giving you tons more miles but their more difficult to ballance.

J and Dez, I've had them balanced like 4 times or such. The first place that balanced them lied to me about having a Road Force balancing machine even though I asked them!. The Toyo dealership has one and they balanced it. It seems to be fine now but I've got 9oz of weight on one of my tires! I'm sorry but I called BFG and they said 6 was way too much. I have a third option that I may try here soon before I go home. Luckily, BFG's customer service has helped me out a TON and I thank them a lot for it.
