Badly need advice in re: 6" lift plus rims/tires upgrade!
I'm about to get a 2008 Tundra LTD, and am planning to have a 6" ProComp lift installed right after the purchase. Your advice is badly needed on a few issues. First of all, this truck will be mostly used for highway and city driving, with very little off-road driving, and very little hauling/towing involved. Basically, I'll drive it most of the time as most people drive their daily cars...
First question: I was planning on a 4WD, but should I get a 2WD instead, considering my planned use of the vehicle and the 6" lift? Or does a 4WD still make sense? Pros and cons, please. Also: my goal is to add great looking 20 in. rims and 37 in. tires, making the truck look just like in the picture shown below. Can you suggest specifically what rims and what tires would be the best deal, given my intended use, and compatible with a 6" lift? How is the above going to affect fuel economy, approximately? I am relatively new at this, so your constructive suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks, Will The look I'm aiming at: ProComp_6in_37s_20.jpg |

sounds good... get the 4wd if you get stuck where you live sometimes. Not like you drive in 4w all the time. Your gearing will be so slow with the 37" anyways.
BTW that green truck has procomp 37 m/t there not a full 37 if you look on there site. Sounds great though |

Yea, full 37s would rub with a 6" lift. I was told elsewhere that if I don't do much off-road driving, it's not worth it to get a 4WD... that with a 4x4 there are other parts to worry about, like cv axle angles...
So, I'd like to get more opinions before making up my mind either way. |

Go with 2wd unless you need 4WD but to me 6 inches is a bit extreme I would do 4 inches or something. But what ever floats your boat.

Then a couple of people elsewhere pointed out why RWD should be better with a lift. Even here, it seems I'm getting contrasting opinions about this... |

You have a point with a lesser lift. What about the option of just installing a 3" leveling kit. What rims/tires will a 3" leveling kit allow me to put on, max without rubbing? Anyone with Pros and Cons regarding 4" lift vs. 3" leveling? If I come to the conclusion that 6" is as you say a bit extreme, and I end up getting a 4WD, then perhaps a 3" leveling kit makes the most sense. Feedback, anyone?? |

If not careful you might not won't more than a 4'' lift with Here is a pic with 4" of lift 305/55/20 Truxx 3" Ultra Goliaths with Nitto Terra Grapplers - Tundra Solutions Photo Gallery

Can a 3" leveling kit use 35s??? 33s still look a bit small to me, esthetically wise... Also, 35s would increase the truck's overall height by 1 extra inch over what was achieved by 33s and the 3" leveling kit... I think that's an option I could live with, if feasible. The question now is, can you use 35s safely with a 3" leveling kit, I mean, with no problems of any kind?? That would suite me just fine. Opinions? Also, does the 3" leveling kit lift only the front, or the rear end too? Thanks. |

He's fit Moto Metal 951 (20"x9") rims and Nitto LT275/65R20 (34" x 10.83" x 20) tires with JUST a 2" leveling kit and nothing else on a 4x2 truck. I like that. You sure you couldn't fit 35s after lifting 3" with a leveling kit?? I guess, that even if that weren't possible, 34s with a 3" leveling kit wouldn't be too bad. You're right, a 6" lift, all considered, is a bit too extreme... and not what I would want. |
