I will stop in at Discount tire tomorrow and see if they have the sensor kits. I got some new factory wheels and tires off eBay today and would like to be able to have the sensors installed. I don't like the styled steel wheels that came on my crewmax.

Went to Discount tire today to get my alloy rims and tires put on. Hated the steel wheels. They said they would put on the sensor "rebuild kits" for alloys and everything would be fine. I had also called the number of the Discount tire in Texes and he said they do the same thing...I think I talked to a shaun? I was pumped....until they broke my sensor! About five guys looked at the wheels and sensors and they said the angle of the steel wheel sensors will not work in the alloys. They also said without the proper sensors anyone would be taking a costly risk. Discount tire is buying me a new sensor for me from my Toyota dealer because of no aftermarkets. They also put everything on for free!!! It looks like I will have to deal with the little pain in the @ss light!

I went from the styled steel wheels to the alloys. I almost wish I had the plain steel wheels...they have the 20 degree valve sensors. I will use the other set of rims and tires with the sensors maybe in the winter time. I'm not going to spend the money for new sensors...I got a bear hunting trip to pay for!!!

Discount Tire 20 & 40 degree TPMS...BROKE ONE!
I read this thread BEFORE I went to Discount Tire.
I showed up to have them take off my STEEL WHEELS Then take the TPMS OUT OF THE STEEL WHEELS Then have them put the TPMS ON MY ALLOY WHEELS Then have them mount the alloy wheels Discount Tire DISCOVERED that the TPMS from the steel wheels do not fit correctly on the alloy wheels. I told him that Discount Tire sells an adapter for $5.00 that allows the 20 degree fitment to be changed to 40 degrees for the alloy wheels (showed them a copy of post #26 of this thread). They're response...what adapter? Discount Tires solution: they turned the TPMS upside down and mounted them. No problems, no issues, works like a charm. However, in the future WHOEVER TAKES OFF ANY TIRE must be forwarned that the TPMS is turned outward. Can they remove a tire without harming the TPMS? Yes. But if they don't know about it each one will be snapped off. In addition they were putting the last TPMS on and they BROKE it! They ordered a new TPMS from the dealer, I will have to get the number off the new sensor, that matches the other sensors, so that I can go to the dealer and get them all programmed. Who is paying for all of this? Discount Tire. Needless to say they DO NOT like any of the TPMS systems on the market. Bottom line: Steel wheels off and TPMS moved over to alloys Alloys added with new BFG tires (new tires and rims bought on Craigslist for $600.00) Happy customer! Discount Tire, not so happy ![]() |

I just bought a set of wheels from Discount Tire and initially they wanted to sell me a "TPMS sensor rebuild kit," Anyway, they asked me how many miles were on the truck and I told them 6000, they said that I didnt need a kit and that my sensors from my stock wheels would be a direct swap to the new wheels.

Yep, each sensor does indeed have its own serial number. However, the Toyota dealer only needed the serial number of the new sensor (replacing the broken one). They were able to get the serial number off the other 3 sensors via the VIN number on the truck. SO THEY SAY!
I go tomorrow to have the new sensor programmed and everything reset. We'll see how it goes. By the way Discount Tire waived the fees on switching out the tires and have arranged to pay the 1 hour charge at the dealer for programming the sensor! ![]() |
