they are held in place with a retaining nut. I think discount tire has adapters to use stock sensors in different wheels.

They are built into the valve stem.

If my sensors ever break or dont work on my new wheels, I'll stick to the old fashioned sensor.

I have an 07' and came with the styled steel wheels. Well a month went by and those wheels went by! I replaced them with the Moto Metal 956 18". After 50 miles the tp light went on and has not gone off since. I took it back to the tire shop and he brought out a handheld and told me that all 4 sensors were reading and it was toyota's problem. By the way the reset button does not do anything! So I went to Toyo to get the service done, explained everything to him and he immediatlly blammed the wheels. He would not touch it because the were nitrogen filled. He said to start with you have to make shure they are facing the same way and then get the numbers off the back. Has anyone ran into this?

The TPMS comes on all Tundras after September '07 (at least in Canada). The warning light is in the right hand guage cluster and looks like an exclamation mark inside a set of brackets in yellow. The answer to most questions can be found by consulting your owner's manual.

I just swapped steel to alloy and the sensors for the steel do not work on the alloys. The dealership just put in standard valve stems, but they said there is no way to disable the light.

Odd, I just had my tires pulled from my styled steel wheels with TPMS and put them on the OEM alloys; Discount Tire did it and also swapped the TPMS over to the alloys with a mod they have. The mod was $5.00 per sensor. Everything is working fine; hell of a deal, 200 for the alloys and 113.65 for the swap.

PS, thanks for the wheels; you know who you are.

I called discount tire and they said they were not aware of anything I could do except buy the other style sensors from the dealer, but at $127 each that would be more than what the wheels, center caps, and swap cost me. I called several other tire shops in my area and everybody said the same thing. What discount tire dealer did you go to so maybe I could call them and see what exactly they call this mod so I can tell the one that is in my area.

Just ask them to BAND the sensors, I had to have mine banded when I went from a regular alloy to the TRD package wheels. I also had to purchase lugnuts, the stealership only wanted 10 dollars a piece for those!

Here's what I found doing a web search:
"20° TPMS valve stems are already included on Tundras equipped with the 18” standard steel wheel and Factory 18” and 20” Alloy wheels. If you install these on Tundras with Styled Steel Wheels, the 40° sensors need to be replaced with the appropriate 20° TPMS Sensors"
