I will be buying a 2017 crewmax in Oct. I want to put new rims and tires on it, and have them stick out just slightly past the edge of the wheel well. I know nothing about offset wheel or tires or whatever, as I've never done any of this before. What is the difference in +25mm offset, and -25mm offset? Guy at Toyota yesterday told me to look for -25 offset rims, but what I'm seeing on here is +20 or +25, etc. I will be running 18" tires if that helps. Not sure on the width of the tire yet either!
What kind of rims do I need to get the look I'm wanting?
Thanks!
Guy at the dealership is going to have your wheel sticking out far from the fenders. If you want it just slightly, stay around the +20 to +25mm. The higher the offset, the more "tucked" the wheels will be. Lower the offset, the further they will stick out. If I remember correctly, the +35mm puts you pretty close to flush with the fenders.
Other piece that could play into this, will the truck you get come with flares on it? If they do, you may need slightly lower offset than above.
rim width does mater. a +35 on a 20x9 is different than a +35 on a 20x10.
I would say something around a 9 inch rim and +35 offset to get you where you want to be. For reference the TSS rims are 9 inch wide and +50 offset.. really tucked in there.
You'll need to know the offset of the current wheel.
Don't trust the saleman or service guys.
Pull the wheel off and look.
The wheel size 20X9, etc and offset +50, etc. is stamped on the inside of the wheel.
I think most stock wheels are either +50 or +60 offset.
My TSS edition are +50.
I think @Kelly92127 is right with his +35 suggestion.
Anything smaller or larger depending on how you look at it, +25, +18 will stick out a bit, even more with a bigger tire..
This is a 0 offset.
-12 on a Ford..
A -25 will stick even further,
So please stay away from the guy at Toyota that recommend 25- unless he meant 25+..
A -76 just for laughs..
You can check this link and see pics of different trucks with different wheels and offsets..
Check my build out link is in my sig below Im running +18 I think it's perfect for a leveled truck. Lower the offset the more the wheels stick it. +18 to +25 is ideal.
