Hi All, it's time for some upgraded rims and tires on the tundra. I've ordered some TIS 534B wheels and I'm trying to figure out what to run for tires. looks like a lot of guys are running Nitto's I want something somewhat aggressive for the occasional off road use, which I need to get to camp, however I want something that does good on the road too.
I found some 295/70/18 Cooper Discover ST Maxx tires on Discount Tire's site that look pretty decent, but I haven't seen anyone running them and they don't have any ratings on DTD's site.
does anyone have any feedback on these tires???
Here's a pic of the rims I ordered and the cooper tires...
I just got them yesterday. I'm running stock RW rims with the 315-70-17 Coopers. I did have BFG a/t ko, same size, and I will never go back. The truck rides like new, no highway howl to speak of and they handle great. My boss just got a new set on his truck after about 50k miles. That includes 6 miles of unimproved dirt road every day.
All of the above. When I say unimproved dirt road, out here in West Texas, that means loose sand and caliche that turns into one foot of mud when we get the occasional rain around here. We give him a hard time about how much of his real estate is in our parking lot at work. He lives about 45 minutes from town and was the first one to work when we had snow and ice this winter. Said he drove about 45-50 mph, no big deal.
He and his tires are the reason I gave up about 20 years of loyality to BFG.
I have put about 300-400 miles on his truck for deliveries and hauling his trailers with those tires and really liked them. Thats why I got them.
I have them too, great tire but a little heavier. On the highway, they are a little "floaty" compared to when I had AT3. Response is there but it's just a little delayed.
The st maxx are not an at tire. The at3 is coopers at tire. These are in between the at and the stt. I have owned all 3 and the st maxx are the best. The at3 is a great on the road tire. Mud and deeper snow they are decent. The stt is not a good on the road tire but is excellent in mud and deep snow. The st maxx is a happy medium. Decent on the road and decent in snow and mud. For me it's a great compromise.
Rims finally came in! got everything mounted today. snapped a couple pics but it was dusk, I'll try to take better ones tomorrow. looks pretty good, I'd recommend the tires to anyone.
Looking good... what size are those? Standing by for more pics.
I've been drooling over these tires while stock tires wore down...now is the time to pull the trigger.
as you can see i have these as well, and am very happy, they are a little heavier but that comes with the e rating, and the weight with this tire is in the deep tread and sidewall protection, both reasons that i purchased it!
45. Was told they will wear much better at 40 or 45 when I bought them. Same place that ran my others at 35 so I figured they know what they are talking about.
