Aftermarket Sub w/ stock JBL?

After upgrading the headunits on several of my previous vehicles, I don't mind the quality of the JBL system with exception of the sub. It needs help - especially when driving with the windows down.

Has anyone upgraded the sub w/o replacing the stock radio?

My biggest concern at the moment is whether I can reuse the stock sub speaker wiring to feed an amp, or get it from the back of the headunit, or worse, purchase a filter to clean up any processed sound such as JL Audio's Cleansweep.

Thanks,
Mark

you can run after market subs an and amp from the stock head unit.

you might be able to use the stock wiring, but for best sound, i would replace that as well.

Yes you can do it. I think many on this forum have done it. I'm in the process of doing this right now to my DC. You just need a speaker/line level to RCA converter which you tap into the left/rear, right/rear speaker wires. Hey Itchy, what kind of sub/amp are you gonna install.

You would need to decide on which subs to use, but these enclosures look pretty slick. SUBWOOFER BOXES - TOYOTA at Sound Off Audio

Or you could go with something a little more custom built and custom looking.

Tech12volt your box looks great! I'm considering just 1 sub though which will be more than enough. Do you make single sub boxes? The sub I'm considering is JL's TW5, however it's a 13" sub requiring 0.80 cubic feet of volume and 2.5" mounting depth. Can you accommodate?

Has anyone done a write on removing stock JBL sub? Any suggestions?

Any body try the new JL Shallow subs? I'm a huge fan of JL Audio and Boston subs.

Thanks,

I was thinking of tapping into the stock sub wiring.
