help installing new speakers plz
I just got JL AUDIO ZR650 CSI 6.50" 2-WAY COMPONENT SYSTEM for my '08 Tundra DC. I plan on only using the front speakers and a sub. What should I do to mount these in the front doors? And, what do I need to do to install the tweeters in the factory dash location? Was thinking of buying
eBay Motors: 6.5" Component Speaker Adapters Toyota 07 Tundra Tacoma (item 360051876171 end time May-19-08 14:58:09 PDT) but what size mount do I need for the tweeters? 2 inch? and will this kit even work for the woofers? |

new head unit
Well I just added a new pioneer head unit the 800bt. It is AWESOME for 300 bucks. Has Bluetooth built in (everyone is in AWWW when the are in my truck and see how it works, and whoever I talk to says it is as good or better than regular cell phone clarity) ,and makes the factory speakers sound about 5 times better. This forum made everything very easy to install the head unit myself too. Think I might have to pay someone to do my door speakers though that has the right tools.

I used that kit to mount the 6.5" speaker into the door panels, but I purchased the Toyota window sail panels that Toyota fits the JBL equipped trucks with to mount my tweeters and removed the stock tweeters in the dash. I did have to slightly file down the opening on the MDF for my speakers to fit, but it was easy enough to do and the rest of the piece bolted up perfectly.
If you want to go this route, go to the Toyota dealer and purchase the left and right window sail panels that are used for the JBL setup that is a factory option. Sorry I don't have the part #'s handy, but tell the parts person to look them up, they cost about $20 each. These sail panels have a grill covered opening for your tweeters, that is where I mounted my MB Quart tweeters and the fit perfectly and definitely improved the high end sound from my system. Just curious, are you planning on installing an amp for your setup? I was under the impression that the JL Audio ZR's were pretty power hungry.
Just for reference, here is the setup in my Tundra RCSB: Sony XAVW1 Double Din DVD Headunit Eclipse XA4000 amp Eclipse XA1000 amp for sub MB Quart PVF 216 6.5" Component Speakers with their wide dispersion tweeters in the sail panels Kicker TCVT122 12" sub I'm very happy with the sound quality of my setup, just have to finish the box for the amps, etc. behind the seats. |

no good amps
I think my amp has gone out, so I am running the 6.5s off the HU. I am amazed at the sound it puts out. Think I am going to run it this way until I can afford some slash or hd series JL amps
also as a side note I put the tweeters on the front door speaker grills. All I did was drill through the fake looking holes, so now the tweeter is right where it was meant to be about 3-5 inches from the woofer. I think it looks good too.. and not like I had to drill a big hole or anything I surface mounted them. Will post pics of install this weekend. Last edited by 4play : 05-26-2008 at 07:21 PM. pioneer ground sux
so I just baught a new jl audio slash 300/2. Long story short the noise I was hearing was from the rca output of my pioneer 800bt.
I guess a fuse or something blew inside the HU , so I just put some speaker wire around the rca outputs and tied that into the HU's ground wire that goes to solid metal under my dash. Problem solved and man these speakers get REALLY LOUD!!! , and are perfectly clear even when pushing 100+ watts each!!!! |
