iPod adapter

I have an 08 Tundra with the factory JBL system. I prefer not to use the Aux adapter for my iPod for obvious reasons (sound quality, exposed cable, etc.). I understand there are cable adapters that connect to the back of the head unit that I can run to my glove box to hook up my iPod. I want to be able to use my head unit's touch screen to scroll through and select music. I've done some research but have found very few answers. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

IPOD adapter

Scosche makes an adapter to tie in behind the radio so you can use the radio buttons to control the ipod (it charges it also). I just purchased an 08 with the JBL system and was planning on having the xm added by the dealer. They had another ipod adapter that would not work with the xm, I was told it had to be xm or the ipod adapter, but not both. The scosche unit (part # AXIPTA) it supposed to work with the xm installed. It intalls somewhere between the two. It looks like it's all plugs and harnesses, no cutting into existing wiring. Crutchfield.com sells the unit for about $175 I believe. Once the xm is installed, the wiring tie in is supposed to be behind the glove box.

Thanks for the heads up jcm. I'll check into it. I do have XM installed so I would need something that works with it. The part you're talking about sounds like it's exactly what I'm looking for.

It's a great option, I have a pioneer 7" touch screen with the Ipod module, the satellite radio module, Blue tooth module, and the Nav module. I can even play videos from my ipods. The modules are expensive though, but in my opinion it's worth it. Good luck!

Dez, I'm assuming you have the same Scosche part jcm is talking about?

Scosche IPOD interface did not work on my 08

Just to follow up, my local dealer installed the factory XM last week and I attmepted to install the Scosche unit over the weekend with no luck. The unit came with 2 harnesses, one for a direct tie in to the stereo without XM and the other to tie into the XM unit directly. With the proper harness installed, all I could get was the song information but no music. In addition, it would not allow me to switch back to XM. I called the 1 800 noo help line and someone tried to help, but said he had to talk with an engineer on Monday and that he would get back to me. He also mentioned they had not tried it on an 08, not sure what the difference would be.

An afterthought, my ipod is the newer Nano video. Perhaps, this IPOD version was not tested?

If anyone has successfully installed the Scosche unit or any other that works with XM, I'd like to hear about it......

Thanks,

jcm

jcm, thanks for the heads up. I would think that all ipods should work, but who knows? Please keep us updated on your issue. I'm still looking into getting the Schosche unit as well.
