Adding a sub to the stock, non JBL stereo. Tips and pics.

Im a new guy on the site and a 07 Tundra owner. I have some tips on installing sub(s) to the stock non JBL stereo. Excellent upgrade to the sound system, keep your stock look and keep that nice 6 disk cd changer (complements of Toyota)! Here is a look at my setup. Nevermind the messy wires. Oh, and this is for the double cab Tundra. Reply with questions and we can get yours in also.

I came up with a rear seat mod that's right up your alley! You can install a good size amp behind the seats and access it without having to remove the seat.

Now thats using your melon! I didnt think of mounting the amp there...now im thinking of relocating my amp. Thanks for the idea. Im sure you have a thread on how to perform the mod, yes?

Ok cool then here's what you do. Completely remove the rear seat on the pasanger side. Then look at the back of the seat and you will see two plastic coated metal hooks. cut off 1-1/4" just like the picture. You notice when you lift the seat normally the back raises, now with the hooks cut it will raise above the hook bars and the back of the seat can lean forward for access. Drop it back in place and the hooks resecure with no problem.

Yeah, for the most part, this is an inexpensive way to put some good sounds in your truck without the hassle of building a custom box yourself. The Pioneer pre mounted shallow mount enclosure fits almost perfect with just a very minor modification to the box itself. When I say inexpensive, I mean around 600 bucks for all brand new stuff (amp, wiring kit, sub in the inclosure) bought out of your commercial retailers. Im sure if you are an e-bay user you can get everything i got for much cheaper. The damn thing sounds great in my opinion and its all pretty much out of the way. The hardest part was figuring out which wires to run the signals out to the amp as I didnt want to take my doors apart and tap off of the speakers. But when you get your dash apart and look at the harness on the back of the stock radio, your going to use the middle square plug to run your + and - speaker line-outs. When looking at the plug with the securing clip facing down, the very top right corner wire is your right speaker negative and the very bottom right corner wire is your right speaker positive. Vise Versa for the other speaker input, the very top left corner wire is your left rear speaker negative and the very bottom left corner wire is the left rear speaker positive. Cant remember the colors of the wires but they dont match your typical red and black, pos and neg, color scheme. Once you found the wires then you tap in the line with wire taps that you can get from a hardware store for $ .99 and connect your signal line converter so you can run your RCA input cables from the dash. If you do it that way then you dont have to worry about running RCA cables if you decide to go with an after market head unit...they'r already there. Of course this is just an option for putting in some sound that I stumbled upon and Im sure that Im not the only one who has done it. Just want to put the word out and share ideas.

FYI guys, that rear seat mod on the DC will work on the bigger drivers side section of rear seat also!

I gotta say that installing an aftermarket sub and an amp to the stock 6 disk system has got to be one of the most creative mods ever on this new Tundra. Great job Mycho!
