Sirius receiver

Just purchased the sirius receiver and fit kit for the Tundra. Best purchase I made. Had a sirius sportster in my old Tacoma and loved it. This is better since it hooked to the stock radio. Much easier to use. I did however purchase the small magnet antenna vs. using the large one provide to mount behind the mirror. I heard lot of bad reception with that one. Install was fairly easy. Most dash items pop out with clips very carefully. Toyota wanted $479 for receiver and install. Got the unit brand new on Ebay for $225. Do the install yourself and save. Well worth the money.

So where did you install it? Looks like you have the siruis box to mount somewhere and the sirius-to-toyota interface box to mount somewhere?

Thanks,
ff

For the factory install, the receiver is mounted under the driver's seat and the interface cable is behind the head unit. My installer mounted everything behind the head unit and under the dash.

the toyota instructions have you mounting the unit behind your glove box. The mount is already there. I have had this installed for about 3 weeks now and am not really happy with the reception. I purchased the magnet antenna and monted it on the roof on top of the winshield. There can be no better place for reception. I did this because of all the poor reception post here using the factory in cab mounted antenna. The no signal display comes up often. Maybe it's sirius and not my antenna.

I am looking to buy a Sirius setup. Do you happen to have the Ebay seller name or Ebay Store you purchased it from? I have found a few on there, but not at $125?

Well after about 1 1/2 months, I got fed up with the crappy signal I have been getting. I figured I would hook up the factory sirius antena which came with the kit and mount it on the windshield as stated. Had nothing to loose. Anyway, I was surprised to get better reception. Not perfect but a lot better. I guess I need to see for myself before taking advice from others on poor factory antenna. Some advice, break down and buy a new head unit.

(My first public post so forgive me if I'm breaking any etiquette...) I am breaking down and buying a new head unit. I just had Alpine PDX-5 amp and front components installed with a Pioneer 12" shallow sub, the factory Sirius (antenna in the dash) and Dice iPod setup. My installer wired up this configuration for me off an Alpine deck in his shop, and the sound was sick - so clear, so loud! He recommended doing the head unit first so I could build the rest of the system over time. I didn't want to replace the factory look of the head unit so I did everything else instead. What a mistake! FM reception of course still sucks, and the new iPod and Sirius both play quieter than CDs/FM. We couldn't tune the cruddy sludge sounds out of the low end and the capped off treble is noticable. After many hours with the whole installer team, we finally turned my new amp way down and I left disappointed. I've had it four days and I can't take it. I'm having an Alpine 9887 deck installed on Monday. The shop's owner says he'll buy it all back if this doesn't fix all the reception, range, and clarity problems.

Update.... The factory sirius kit which will hook up to your stock radio absolutly sucks!!!! I get the worst reception on no matter what antenna I use or where I mount it. I am lucky to get through 2 full songs until the radio states no signal. Has anyone else had these dropped signal problems? I hate to go and change out the head unit after droppin $300 for this piece of Sh*%. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Aaaahahahah! Dump the whole system and get an aftermarket radio with built in satellite! The reception is flawless plus the difference in sound quality is unmatched!!!

I'm running my Sirius for about 2 weeks with great reception. I also purchased Best Buy's external antenna and mounted it on the roof.

I've had about 5 tuners for Sirius (alpine, kenwood, pioneer...)and they all seem to be made by Directed. What I've noticed is that some recievers are built better than others. Certain ones appear more sensitive.

What I suggest is for you to exchange your tuner for a replacement and see how that works out.

I'm glad I spent the $300 w/ external antenna and can utilize my JBL headunit. I love the mounting bracket for the tuner as well. I usually place my tuners underneath the seats.

I know by far a whole new system is the best way to go. I'm not one to dump tons of money into my vehichle like some of the people here and was just tying to get satelite radio the easiest way. If the reception was good i would not even posted this. A head unit will be down the road I suppose.
