Question Pioneer FH-P8000BT CD receiver

well after adding a set of running boards and a tonneau cover i thought I had all the mods I needed (for now). BUt then I can not ignore the fact that the factory radio sucks. I use my ipod most of the time and the volume level is not even high enough+some songs appear to be struggling to flow through the stereo. Today I tried to play one of my fav songs and dam the sound was bad.
I dont need a GPS (I have a c580 garmin streetpilot already) or a DVD I just want a nice, loud and good quality stereo. I dont want to spend too much money on this either. Also I dont want one of those small receivers, which in my opinion do not look good on the tundra's big interior. I found this one and it seems to be good, i even found a lot pics on the tundra solution forums.
I have 2 questions:
1)Does anyone happen to have this receiver? would you recommend it?

2) It's out of stock at cructhfield so I found it at newegg.com for $250, the thing is that at crutchfield they give you the kit for a bit more $$. I have no clue like what kit to look for online, I could probably order it at a local store but it might be cheaper online any thoughts?

I have the credit card in my hand already lol

You can find the face adapter and wiring harness on ebay. Harness should wire to same colors on back of head unit and then plugs right into the stock plug. Face housing adapter will mount around the factory opening (which is supper huge compared to stock din or double din size for that matter). Just search Toyota tundra and select the electronic accessories. Hope that helps.

thx for the input man. I passed by a local car electronics shop this morning and they are charging me $45 for the kit +65 for instalation, I think I am gonna pull the trigger on this one. Seems reasonable.

I've had 3 Pioneer/Premier HU's and have yet to have a problem with any of them.

Crutchfield is expensive. If you look around you'll definitely be able to find the same HU for cheaper.

If I were you I'd attempt to do the install yourself. I personally havent looked at the stock reciever so I dunno how hard it is but the first time I installed one it was pretty easy. Everything is color coded so it isnt that hard either.

This summer I'm probably gonna upgrade the sound in the Tundra (dont have the funds now.)

Also, if you can't find the Pioneer, look at Alpine and Eclipse HU's - both are reliable and put out pretty good SQ.

Awesome. So right now you just have the standard stock radio/sound system? No JBL Upgrade, nothing? Are you planning on upgrading your speakers, adding an amp, etc>..?

ohh man good that you ask. Yes I would like to add a few upgrades to improve the sound quality. I don't have the JBL just the regular stock system. Any suggestions? what would be the next best upgrade i could get?. Considering that I don't want to spend a lot money on this. I know little about car electronics so some advice would come in handy.

thanks a lot

I'll be of no help here. I'm on the same boat as you. I plan on replacing my stock stereo as well, just not right now. So please keep ME posted with whatever you do.

Put a sub in it...its easy to do. Check out my thread under the audio/visual section, there are pics of my set up. Makes all the difference in the world.
