Satellite radio antenna mounting suggestion

When I tried to remove the 3rd brake light lens, thats all that came off...the lens. The actual housing comes off through bolts that are on the inside hidden by the headliner. Too much trouble for me.

I love the radio I have. The color screen is really nice and clear. Better than those sirius units.

Takes less than 5 minutes to pull the headliner down, loosen the two 10mm bolts (you don't have to remove them), run the wire and re-attach everything. The headliner is held in place with plastic clips and pops on/off easily.

Plus, once the antenna is mounted, it's not visible unless you're standing in the bed. Or unless you're 8' tall. I'm 6'5 and can't see the XM antennas on our DC Tundras when I'm walking around them.

No big deal bro, some people just don't have the patients to go into detail to help a Tundra bro out. Ya know I didn't like the Sirius unit color either nor did I like the sound quality of any of the Satellite remote units. Thats why I installed an aftermarket Pioneer with Serius Sat Radio built in and brother what a difference in sound and sight! You guy's with the remote units don't know what you're missing! Trust me. Look into it!

I know what you mean dez. The aux input sound quality is sh!t. My volume level on the radio is max and its just loud enough to hear with the windows down. How much was the built-in option and how easy is it to install?

Stag, just about every newer aftermarket car stereo unit has satellite built in. There are a lot out there with a lot of great options like DVD, Ipod, Ipod video, Blue tooth, TV, etc. Ebay has a lot of great name brand units for as low as 1/2 price,NEW! You will also most likley have to purchase a small replacment dash piece. Those are usually around $25 and match the existing dash perfectly. Install shops should have this piece. If you hand over all the components to an install shop they should be able to do it in an hour or two. I found an upper upper medium range Pioneer 7" touch screen on ebay for $575 (reg $900 at Circuit city) and the Satelite module was $90. Install about $100. Not bad for 100% better sound and Video. I have a few other components but the stereo unit and module are all you need for better sound quality. Adding an amp or two won't hurt either. To sum it up: If you're paying the normal price for satellite radio, you should be hearing it as crisp, clear, and loud as you want bro.

It runs down the seal for the windshield and then into the truck through the door. That is the only place you see any wires. It then goes behind the dash and comes out right below the center cigarette lighter. No highly visible wires at all.

How did you mount your radio like that? I used a swivel mount to the left of the AUX jack, but that looks much cleaner.

I used velcro to mount the radio. If you try to push buttons on the radio, it moves slightly but the radio came with a remote, so I use that. Its a pet peeve of mine that everything looks clean. Thats the best I could come up with

I'll try and post a pic of mine as soon as I get my ground loop filter in the mail. Should be sometime later this week. I'm not going to tear out the dash to hide all the wires until then.

does anyone have any pics of the antenna mounted out the 3rd tail light? thinking of doing that install with mine and curoius as to how it looks. thanks for the help
