Radar detector Hardwire

Anyone here done a hardwire for a radar detector? I am looking to do so here in the near future. If so how did you do it?

Thanks

There is a piece you can buy that you can plug your radar detector plug into it and all you have to do is wire the hot & grnd to any power source. Those plugs have different resistance settings thats why they fit in the cigarette lighter and they get converted through the plug. We used to just open them up and find the power and ground connection and solder two new wires and run them to a power source in the truck. Either way you have options. I will try to find that piece and re post it for you.
Hope that helps. The solder thing is real easy though.

I already have the hard wire kit from my last car. I attached it to the radio wire coming from the fuse via a "piggy back" clamp. It worked great and powered up with the ignition.

I want to do something similar here, but in looking at where the fuses are located is kinda tricky. Besides the A-pillar has all the side curtain air bags that I am not too sure about messing with. (as in running the wire up through the A-pillar)

My detector is 12volts, so I didn't have to mess with any converters. There are unused connectors inside of the overhead console. I asked Toyota which one I could use and I just got their typical BS answer "We don't recommend that". I informed them that this is MY truck and I will do anything to it that I want to.
I used my tester to find a wire that turned on and off with the key and connected it to that. So far it works fine and nothing bad has happened. The wire runs from the front of the console directly to my detector. Now there is nothing hanging down in front of me.
It would be nice if someone could help us out with some wiring diragrams, but no luck so far.

Wiring issue like this are fairly easy. If all you need is a hot (ignition/constant) and a ground, you can catch that at just about any where you see something lit up. The hard part is taking apart the specific piece to get to the wire. Using a simple test light is the best way, or a multi meeter for the slightly advanced person to. Its when you get into needing relays for boost positive or negative, or a switch that runs through the ground first. That gets confusing. There are so many ways to wire up a relay, and so many different relay configurations out there. We dealt a lot with relays installing remote start alarms and amp kits, aftermarket blue tooth set ups with amps ect..

I had BestBuy do it for $27. They ran it from the fuse box. Took all of 20 minutes.

I take it you won't travel through Virginia. State police constantly look for radar detectors. Being a state where they are illegal. Being hardwired they may state it's on for being that way. My travels through I have the cord on the dash board and they look at it then check your rear to see if you're passing through. It happen to me several times going from Rhode Island back to Florida. Also from Jacksonville to Pittsburgh.

I had an amusing moment in Virginia several years ago. I was returning from Florida and I think I was on route 19, which is hilly, 4 lanes wide, but only 50MPH. Obvious speed trap! I had removed my radar detector from the windshield at the state line as I knew they were illegal in Virgina.
I was first in line at a traffic light with my Ford crewcab dually. Some local punks pulled up beside me in their Ford crewcab dually, and reved the engine. The light changed and I hammered it! The race was on! But, once I hit 50MPH, I held it at exactly 50. The punks went blowing past, laughing like crazy, head on in to a cop!!! The cop pulled them over and I was laughing now. Being that they were locals, I figured that they knew the cops were there and were trying to set me up!

I hate that state!!! VA can sink away and I would be happy. I was driving to V beach in my Acura tl and I was cruising pretty good when this dark mustang pulled up next to me and was goosing it back and forth at me...taunting me...playing with my emotions. The dumb ass I am, I nailed it and we were off. I think we hit around 120 or so before I started pulling from him....so I thought. He pulled behind me and lit me up like a griswald Christmas tree. I didn't think you could put this many lights on a car. My heart sunk to my toes and I knew I was royally screwed. He actually was pretty cool considering the circumstances. He got me for 80 in a 65 zone. It was bitter sweet in a way. Now my next radar detector will be this little puppy!! It works pretty good. I have seen it. lol

I would be bent also and fight him in court. He needs to explain why he has to race then wait so late to do something. Basically entrapment was what he was doing.

the beltronics STI Driver is undetectable to radar detector detectors.
BEL STi driver by Beltronics...really undetectable?
therefore you could get away with it in VA.

Yes I did just make the trip from VA. I was there for some training for the Army. While there I just removed my radar detector to save myself some headache.
