OEM alarm...dealer has to activate?
It looks like if I install the OEM alarm/glass breakage sensor in my 2008 Tundra I will need to have a Toyota dealer activate it? Does anyone know 1) what a dealer should charge for this 2) will a dealer be willing to do this if I install the alarm hardware? Thanks.

wait, the alarm is already installed (and all I am getting when I buy the "alarm kit" is the GBS (Glass Breakage sensor))?
How much did your dealer charge to just activate the existing alarm?

It cost me $30...some have had it done for free or for $20. The dealer I went to wanted $60, but I talked them down after telling them that that was a ridiculous amount of money for 15 minutes "work". If you get it activated now, it'll just save you from having to do it when you get the GBS...

Thanks for the info.
Thumbs down to Toyota for selling a truck with an OEM alarm that is not activated. Quote:

So just for those searching this forum in the future:
The 2007/2008 Tundra that you got (with remote lock feature) already has an alarm installed but it is not activated. If you purchase the "Glass breakage sensor", the dealer will have to activate the alarm (for a fee). You do not even need to purchase the GBS, you can just have them activate your alarm. You can always install the GBS at a later date (~$110). All 2007/2008 Tundras have an alarm, Toyota dealers need some $$$ from you to make it work.

I heard about this... was going to talk to my friend at my local toyota dealership about turning it on for me. Just another way for the dealership to make the green backs. bastards.

I was about to get an alarm installed till I read this or maybe I missed something. I have a 2008 dc with keyless entry does this mean I have an alarm that I could get activated at the dealer??????????? If so it seems really fishy

Alternator guage/Alarm turned on
I took my truck in today to have them check my alternator to see if it was working correctly. Since we all have guages, where does you needle sit on the guage when it is running, mine is just to the left of the center. I was thinking it was not working. Since I turned on all the stuff in the truck and the needle did not go towards the +. The dealer said it was working right.
On the other note: I asked the service tech if they could turn on the alarm. He did it for free. He said this would give him time to play with one of the new tundra's. He explained that when you double click the key fob the little red truck light with the key in it would glow steady red for 14 seconds. It would then start to flash. This tells you that the alarm is actviated. To test turn it on with a window open and the key out of the ignition. Then reach in and open the door thru the window, the horn will start and the lights will flash.
