We used to sell DEI electronics. Its a great company. They make a lot of different alarms. I have the equivalent to the viper...its their python series 2 way paging unit. Basically the same unit, not as much color in the display screen, in fact most of the wiring harnesses are compatible to each other. Mine has a few less features then the big brother Viper, but the 2 way is nice. It gets annoying if the sensitivity is to high and you live in a city or a loud place (Air Force base). Its a balancing act on setting the single stage or pre-stage warning. I loved the remote start feature the most!

Factory Alarm System

well let me start off by saying all who are on this forum rock with all the ins and outs we share here i had the day off from work and decided to try this out for myself (about getting my alarm turned on) i walked in and told the service department straight like it is and you guessed it from this posting i WON the advisor i spoke to got a tech who looked @ my window sticker said NO you dont have a alarm system i told him otherwise i said go get your techstream computer ill help turn it on for you (LOL) (i went with out any of these postings printed out but kept mentioning the forum that it is true there is facory alarm systems with no ones knowledge of them being there) he signed on to my trucks computer and showed me there is no TVSS installed then he went into the imobilizer section and i think thats where if not another screen where to go into the customization screen and found the alarm option..... with himself behind the pencil of his techstream notebook he hit the button that said on when it was off (he wasnt paying attention when he did it himself ) he then shut my ignition off pulled keys out set the door lock button on my remote the light on the dash was solid like the trucks owners manual said it would be (by the way owners manual say if it is not activated get dealer to do so for you) i told him he turned it on for me and thanked him but he still didnt believe it so still with us both locked in the truck i opened the passenger door from the inside and the truck went NUTZ he said..... REALLY ........ WOW ...... he was in a state of shock he unhooked his computer and sent me on my merry way @ NO CHARGE less then 10-15 min worth of his time..... i had a smile from ear to ear ..... once again thank you all for all your input here for us all to learn something new everyday......

07' 5.7 DC Limited here.

I set the alarm and after about 20 seconds or so, the light that looks like a car with a key in it turns off. Once it turns off if I open the door from the inside the horn goes off. I also thought the doors unlocked and locked to trap the person inside? My door opened.. I also set the alarm and hit the window fairly hard from the outside and no alarm went off. I was under the impression that I also had the GBS? Do I need to hit it harder??

Does this mean that my alarm is activated? I paid for it, I want it to work..

Yours is a Limited, I believe they come with the alarm activated. GBS is optional.

I just went out into the garage and tested mine. The red key in car indicator light went solid for 30 seconds after I locked the truck with the fob.
After 30 seconds the key in car indicator light began to flash again. If I tried to unlock the door manually the door relocked and the horns/headlights went off.
However, If I simply pulled on the interior door handle the door did open and the alarm also went off. So, yes yours is activated.

To test the GBS the window should be tapped firmly with a light hard object, such as the your key. The GBS is attuned to the frequency of glass, it shouldn't take a breaking blow to set it off. Also, you may be able to find out from your dealership or any Toyota dealership. They can run the VIN and if GBS was factory installed it should pull up on that.

I have an 08 CM grade. I have keyless entry and contacted the dealer to ask about it. They said you dont have it unless it was on the factory sticker as purchased. I checked the sticker and dont see anything mentioning an OEM alarm.

Is this true or are they being totally clueless?

My dealer said I dont have the OEM alarm unless its listed on the factory sticker. I checked the sticker and its not listed. Do I still have OEM? Plus, I do have keyless entry.

When I unlock the doors Manually from the inside with the alarm set, nothing happened. Maybe I changed a setting on the computer. But anyways it looks like mine came activated. Excellent!

Thanks for the help!

Does it say "Engine immobilizer" on your sticker? Is it a V-8? You have keyless entry. If you answered yes twice, then you do. I have the alarm and nothing about alarms was printed on my sticker. Not one dealer out of the 5 that I contacted knew anything about it.

YEA....lazy!!! Dam dealers. There are some good stories previously mentioned in this thread. ALL 07,08 Tundras come with the alarm, weather the dealer knows it or not is the question..

Hello All, Thanks for this thread, I had no clue of this feature. I plan to take delivery of my 08 DC 4x4 and extras on Monday 3/31. I mentioned this to the dealer and no surprise they had no clue what i was talking about. I explained it to them and they still didnt understand, I then told them that i expect this to be activated upon delivery or its a no go they can keep their truck. Thanks gnyhuf for the phone number to your dealer, I have a feeling that my dealer will be contacting them.

Just tell them to hook up thier Techstream and look for alarm . They will see it , then all they gotta do is turn it on . here is a link to the manual for it .
Sparks Toyota
Upper right hand corner of the page , I think it's page # 10 for the techstream instructions on alarm activation .
Hope this helps you , Bill .

After reading that pdf, I dint have the microphone positioned in that spot where it says it should be. I DO have the GBS sticker in my windshield. I have re checked my alarm status and it seems that I was wrong and do not have it activated. I locked my door with the keypad while I was inside. My light flashed on the dash by the clock, but did not go solid at all. I waited about one or two minutes then tried to open the door and it did with no horn or locks freaking out. I am mad I am out of town right now. I want to stop by the local dealer where I am at and see if they will "fix" my alarm. I am going to print out this pdf and give it to them also so they have no excuses. We will see how it goes tomorrow I guess.
