Never assume Survivor. Check for sure. You know the saying for (Ass U Me).
polcat I can't see a dealership making people pay for a product that came with the vehicle. You would figure they would want to do things the right way and ssatisfy the customer. They're taking advantage of a system they know is on the truck and not telling anyone so they can charge them a fee. I'm sure when you go visit the next time having a banner waving telling everyone they charge you for an activation when they didn't even tell you about the product. Bad publicity will make them see the light.

Here is how it went down:
Yesterday I took in printouts of the forum threads and directions on how to activate the security system. They looked at me like I was crazy, they told me there was no alarm on my truck. I whipped out the paperwork and showed them what I had, they told me they would review it for me.

Today I showed up for my oil change appointment and they told me it would run me $80 bucks to try it. I told them to let me talk to the service manager to discuss the price as I know it takes longer to hook up the computer than to actually hit a couple of buttons to turn it on. The general manager and service tech went in the back to discuss. He came back and told me they would charge $40, that the computer they use cost them $8,000 so they had to charge something. I would have paid $50 to have it turned on so I gladly excepted the $40 fee.
30 minutes later after the oil change and playing with their computer they came out with my truck and the security system turned on.
It works as advertised...lock the doors with the key fob and 30 seconds later just try and open the door from the inside...it continues to lock itself if you attempt to open the door and the horn continues to go off untill you hit unlock on the key fob.
And to think I was going to spend 3-400 dollars to have an alarm installed. This forum is great, thanks for the heads-up.

As for the GBS, I asked the parts counter what they would charge for me to order through them and was told $340 to have it installed or if I just wanted the part $160 and I could install it myself. I found the GBS online for $100 so I believe I will got that route.

I highly recommend that you approach your dealership with printouts and know what you are talking about. Seems that Toyota Techs are kept in the dark and think they know everything. We all learn something everyday...
I say again you found the answer why they are charging. $8,000 is why they are charging $80. My first staement would have been something smart at them for stating that like I don't want to buy your machine. Second statement would've been this computer is for alot more than telling you have an alarm so why are you charging so much for a system that should be activated upon buying the vehicle. I'm sure if reports like this get to the BBB about how you're ripping off the customers would not go over well or let's say get a banner like I mentioned above may tend to change the mind of new customers in the showroom and outside. As you read about my threads about my 06 Silverado LT3 and 03 Ford F-150. I have no more patience dealing with service advisers or managers who think they can B/S you, Accuse you, And basically talk to you like you're a kid. I'm doing my part in buying their product all I want is for them to do there part. I tell up front I don't know your job but do I have to do my job and yours too? After being burnt twice in a row I can't be MR. Nice guy for awhile. Don't get me wrong the dealership I go to hasn't given me a reason to act different. They have been very couteous and professional. Just so happens they did activate my alarm before giving me the truck. I'm not sure if it's because I bought a Crewmax Limited or that I also bought a Prius at the same time.

Wow its kind of odd, you buying a gas hog of a truck and a then, at the same time, you buying the one of the best gas saving cars out there. If I bought two cars from the dealership, both new, I would expect to be treated right. I haven't had to go to my dealership for anything wrong yet. I would like to think they would do me right. It wasn't the easiest adventure getting g me into this truck. They pulled some serous strings to make it happen for me. I was screwed in my trade. I have to say there sales dept worked hard! I hope the same for the service as well. I have a fellow "tundra talk" friend that says otherwise though. I guess I will see for my self....eventually.

Thanks! This is a great site. The Service Manager turned me away today cause I didn't have the RS3000 or whatever the code is for the alarm option. Was pretty upset. Tried to act like I knew what I was talking about. I'm Just a tiny bit hesitant that I don't have all the necessary "stuff" for this capability though. I have the SR5 DC 5.7L w/ engine immobilizer. Anything else I need?

After talking (explaining what I thought the requirements were for this capability) to him over the phone I thought he had my back but he didn't even hook it up. Just pulled the invoice and gave it to the service rep who waved it at me, told me to go home, I didn't have that alarm option. I already had the invoice from another dealers Finance Manager and knew that. He told me go straight to the GM and if not resolved ask for Toyota's number to get this straight. Their taking this "customer service survey" thing serious. Maybe at the Corporate level! Was so frustrated at this point took time out of my day to drive home and get copies of some of these threads. Took it to the GM who just happened to be talking to some guy he said was in charge of this. I don't know if it was the service manager cause I just talked to him over the phone. GM wanted him to hook it up but I could tell the other person was hesitant and I was even hesitant of him performing this procedure on "my" truck. Told him to look at my information and call me on my cell. The clock is ticking.

Besides having the engine immobilizer on my front two windows I have a sticker stating audible alarm and a sticker on the windshield stating that this vehicle was covered by Toyoguard alarm.

I understand that but the wife was sticking to her ground and she wanted a prius. I tried to talk her into a loaded Avalon. Even the hybrid camary. She had an 03 Crown Victoria LX sport. I told her her ride will be gone. She only intrested in the gas savings. Her first tank she avg 72mpg. Since break-in she's getting 64mpg avg. So now she wants an CAI to increase her mpg. LOL I said.

Thats awesome!! I would love to see my wife in the Camry hybrid. She wanted the 07 Sante Fe ltd. We have one very big dog and theirs no way his 125lb hairy ass will ever see the Red rock interior of my truck!! Cant do it. lol It just makes sense for us. I think if we bought any hybrid I would want to drive it and the wife would have an excuse to take the Tundra on her grocery trips or what ever the heck she does during the day. lol

You have everything you need, just need to print out some of the threads in here and print out the PDF document that shows how to turn this on. Also you might want to have them call my the service department at the dealership where I had mine done, their phone number is (252) 637-7200 as they have been officialy schooled my me yesterday. Have your service department contact the one here in New Bern, NC and hopefully they can set them straight.

Hope this helps,
David

Yes I was brave and I found a new meaning to that handle you can grab on to as a passenger. She went to take off she must have floored it and the tires went squeeling and she stopped and said my car doesn't take off like that and I have to push hard for it go fast in a take off when I need it. So I politely said Prius = squirrel, Tundra = 381 Horses. Then she stated I don't want to drive this truck it scares me. I said lovely. No more tears or fears.

Tankhead,

It is my understanding that we all have the alarm. Have the service tech hook the techstream laptop and look into the codes they can do just about anything they need/want to. My service dept told me "this is the first time i get to play with this truck", then they actavated the alarm for free, even though i was going to pay them. I have a 07 TRD DC 5.7. If they can/will not hook it up ask for the owner, that will get there attention. Some of the service tech are unsure of what can be done since these are new trucks.

Keep us posted.
