I guess I really got shafted after reading the posts. Dealer charged $1200 to activate mine. Says it's for the lifetime warranty on alarm. Also, anybody had that final touch wax job done on their truck? I guess once wasn't enough!!!

My 08 5.7 TRD DC has a sticker on my windshield that says that there is that GBS as a warning. I have not tried the window trick, as I am a little confused on how to check if mine is activated or not. Mine beeps once when locking and twice when unlocking. I wouldn't pay a dime to the dealer after paying 33g's for my truck and sitting through a 1hr spiel on the best service dept in the region. They would activate it for free in my opinion. If it came with the truck, then it should work, if it doesn't work then its broke!! Simple as that! I payed extra for a four year warranty so I dint expect to pay for crap until then!! lol
I would win that battle. I like the story above!!! I dont think my lid is that tight. I would of came un glued the second they told me I was wrong. When I bought my truck, I didn't want the towing mirrors. I asked them to change for the SR5 normal mirrors. The service dept said that the wiring would not match up so they told me no due to the warranty. I am just collecting ammo to use when they try to tell me know again

Never heard of final touch wax job. They gave me a bottle of sealant wax.

POLCAT,

Just watch the service dept and make sure they do everything that there susposed to. I had a couple of Mazda's that they could not fix, NO code not broke, Yea Right. I got my oil changed on friday, the first one 5300 miles. Cost me $53.00 but they had a cupon for 10% and ended up with a $43.00 bill. No issues.

I just dealt with QI before and they would not deal with me, "you just want too much for your trade, for the truck you want. I ended up going to Palmer in Mobile AL. I went back to QI and showed them the same truck they had on the lot, but $7000. less from that they wanted.

I guess I have an alarm then cuz I meet all those pre req's you listed. I didn't think I had the immobilizer but I just checked and yea, a little red light blinks up where the time is. Either way, I'm getting the Viper 5701 Le Responder when it comes out next month.

I approached the dealership in New Bern, NC. and they knew nothing of the security system activation. What I did was print out the forum threads from here and Tundrasolutions and printed out the "How to Activate" document. They told me that they would review it for me. I have an appointment tomorrow to get my oil changed and to activate the alarm.
I also told the Sales Manger that this would be a good selling point and he said if this works that they will activate all their trucks on the lot.
I will post the results when I get back tomorrow evening.

That sounds like a good dealership. I cant believe they would activate all their alarms for "FREE" I wish my dealer had that same initiative! lol

When I ordered my truck I told them I wanted the Alarm w/gbs, so ill assume it will all be activated. I better test it before I leave Is there anyway to test the GBS (w/o breaking the glass of course lol). Will it go off if I knock on the glass with a quarter? Not sure if the GBS is impact or sound detection.

I just got back from the dealer...(Toyota of New Bern, NC)
Had my oil changed and had them activate my alarm.

Here is how it went down:
Yesterday I took in printouts of the forum threads and directions on how to activate the security system. They looked at me like I was crazy, they told me there was no alarm on my truck. I whipped out the paperwork and showed them what I had, they told me they would review it for me.

Today I showed up for my oil change appointment and they told me it would run me $80 bucks to try it. I told them to let me talk to the service manager to discuss the price as I know it takes longer to hook up the computer than to actually hit a couple of buttons to turn it on. The general manager and service tech went in the back to discuss. He came back and told me they would charge $40, that the computer they use cost them $8,000 so they had to charge something. I would have paid $50 to have it turned on so I gladly excepted the $40 fee.
30 minutes later after the oil change and playing with their computer they came out with my truck and the security system turned on.
It works as advertised...lock the doors with the key fob and 30 seconds later just try and open the door from the inside...it continues to lock itself if you attempt to open the door and the horn continues to go off untill you hit unlock on the key fob.
And to think I was going to spend 3-400 dollars to have an alarm installed. This forum is great, thanks for the heads-up.

As for the GBS, I asked the parts counter what they would charge for me to order through them and was told $340 to have it installed or if I just wanted the part $160 and I could install it myself. I found the GBS online for $100 so I believe I will got that route.

I highly recommend that you approach your dealership with printouts and know what you are talking about. Seems that Toyota Techs are kept in the dark and think they know everything. We all learn something everyday...
