XM satellite radio installation

Anyone know if it is possible to install xm satellite directly to stock radio in 2007 SR5? I have a Skyfi XM unit from my old truck that I'd like to eliminate if I can run antenna into radio and use built in sat tuner. Do these radios have capability for satellite reception?

If you have the a SAT button on the unit, then yes you can. I believe that it comes on the upgraded JBL units as well as the NAV units. You will have to buy an adapter kit as well as a tuner. I just purchased the Sirius Adapter and tuner from Crutchfield for a total of just under $300. There are several tuners you can purchases.

Here is the XM version...

From Crutchfield...

Overview: The SoundGate TOYXM2 XM Radio Interface module is designed to provide plug-and-play addition of a Terk XMDirect or XMCommander universal XM satellite radio tuner (sold separately) to select Toyota factory radios.

Compatibility: The SoundGate TOYXM2 adapter is compatible with the following universal XM tuners and Toyota/Scion vehicles.

Universal XM Tuners: The TOYXM2 Toyota XM Radio Interface adapter supports the following universal XM Satellite Radio tuners - Terk XMDirect (XMD1000) and XMCommander (XM-RVR-FM-001)
Scion: 2004-2007 XB, TC
Toyota Vehicles:
1995-2007 Tacoma
1998 T100
1998-2001 Tercel
1998-2004 Rav 6
1998-2005 Celic
1998-2007 Land Cruiser
1998-2007 Corolla
1998-2007 Avalon (2005-2007 with or without Navigation)
1998-2007 Camry/Hybrid/Solara
1999-2005 Solara
1999-2007Sienna
2000-2002 MR3
2000-2007 Tundra
2001-2007 Sequoia
2003-2007 4-Runner
2004-2005 Echo
2007 FJ Cruiser
2002-2007 Highlander/Hybrid
2003-2005 MR2
2003-2007 Prius
2005 Rav 5
2006-2007 Matrix
2006-2007 Rav 4
2007 Yaris
Installation: The SoundGate TOYXM2 interface features the following connections for installation.

Device Control: This is a 10-pin port designed to connect to the supplied 5' XM Satellite Radio interface cable which then plugs into the XMDirect or XMCommander universal satellite tuner. A separate RCA audio cable (sold separately) is also needed to connected the XM universal tuner to the TOYXM2's satellite radio harness.
Head Unit: This is a 14-pin port designed to connect to the supplied 3' audio harness which plugs into the supplied 8' Y-adapter harness. The factory radio's harness is detached from the back of the factory radio and plugged into the Y-harness. The other end of the Y-harness is then plugged back into the rear of your factory radio.
Display: The SoundGate TOYXM2 allows you to display text on your Toyota's factory radio LCD screen or navigation monitor such as Artist name, Song title and Channel information. This unit supports 8 types of display modes for XM Satellite Radio.

Controls: The operation of your connected XMDirect or XMCommander universal satellite radio tuner is done through your Toyota factory radio or steering wheel controls. Your factory radio will be able to control the following functions of the universal XM tuner -

Manual Tuning: allows you to manually tune in your favorite XM channels; you can rapidly scan channels by turning the manual tuning knob faster in the direction you wish to scan
Channel Seek: allows you to select the next or previous channels and automatically skips channels that are not available
Preset Search: allows you to select next or previous preset station (you can store up to 18 preset XM channels)
Categories: allows you to change category of channels you would like to listen to
Text Information: enables or disables song title and artist name information; song title and artist name can display a maximum of 16 alphanumeric characters each
Channel List: allows you to see a list of the next available 6 XM channels for faster searches (only for vehicles with Navigation monitors)
Direct Entry Mode: allows you to directly enter in an XM station number (only for vehicles with Navigation monitor)
Noise Reduction: The interface features a built-in electronic ground noise isolator to eliminate unwanted car engine noise.

Level Adjustment: You can adjust the input sound level of your universal satellite tuner. The sound level adjustment allows you to balance the volume control with your factory radio and other sources connected to your factory radio. This helps to eliminate possible distortion caused by high input levels.

Thanks for the info. So if I understand correctly, my skyfi unit is not compatible with tundra radio. I would need to purchase the equipment you specified. May not be worth the trouble considering potential merger with Sirius and all the commercials that we pay for with Xm. Ipod auxillary input seems to be the best option.

I don't know of any Sat rx radio that would be directly compatible with any stock radio (save for an AUX input or FM modulator).

I recently purchased a Roady XT and I'm using it in the AUX port. Works fine. There is the XM passport which is a chip (a card really) that has the radio serial number on it. You activate that one chip and move it from radio to radio. The Nexus 25 & 50 use it and there are some car kits and home kits that will use it as well. Unfortunately there is not a Toyota interface for it yet.

This was what I decided also. Canceled my XM subscription from my old truck, and plugged in my IPOD to the new one.

marinetech- you can still use your skyfi. You can either broadcast it to your radio or buy an adaper that hardwires it in. I think your truck antenna plugs into the unit then the unit plugs into antenna port on your radio. Used that setup with a roady- works good.

I just installed mine and it works great with the Factory JBL Radio. You don't have that crappy sound you get when using the FM Mod. I have the FM Mod setup in my car and it sucks IMO compared to the factory setup.

Yes, you can use your steering wheel controls as well as all factory radio controls. The only thing that will be visible from the install is the Antenna.
