Pioneer AVIC-D3 Install

Includes Sirius, flawless Bluetooth, iPod adapter, DVD, hacked factory steering wheel controls, Scosche Piano finish dash kit. Hacked the system to program DVD and NAV while moving. Using the JBL amp interface harness, the head unit definitely made the speakers come alive. Am thinking of back up camera next. Quite happy with the setup.

Thanks. $729 for the D3, $99 for 4 year warranty. Still less than $999 @ Crutchfield.

How do you find the piano finish? I am getting ready to do an install and it is hard to tell from pictures with kit to buy.

Scosche has apparently completed their second production run of the piano finish kit and should be plentiful. Check with your local installer. If not go to eBay and order from a seller named Sonic___. Stay away from seller a2bdistributing.

Looks great! I've been looking at that unit specifically for a while. Is it HD radio ready?

mwg0415: no, it's not HD radio.

dascrow: yes, there's a plug in for the BU cam. Probably going to be adding that shortly. my installer says the install was pretty easy.

Fins, when you say you hacked into the steering wheel and have BT, I am assuming you are saying the phone function on BT and the steering wheel controls works exactly the same as with the factory deck? Also, I notice when a call comes in I see the number of the caller on the stereo...does the AM deck do the same thing?

I really want to upgrade but had all of these questions...I have the JBL audiot...No NAV. Thanks!!!

PS...Great looking installation.

I have an extra dash kit I need to sell.

I bought mine on eBay, but then when I ordered my Head Unit, it came with a free dash kit. So now I have 2. =/

Fender,

Steering wheel phone controls do not work with the D3 bluetooth. Instead, my installer used the right steering wheel control to attenuate the sound. He used the bottom left control to control the presets. The volume controls stayed trhe same and the up/down arrows to was programmed to search tracks/stations on radio and sat. Hope that answers your question.

Hi All,

First post here and am a newbie to Toyota/Tundra ownership.

I am not sure what this talk is of JBL and non-JBL audio systems. I understand that in order to install certain types of stereo systems that you need the JBL system, is that correct?

I am also not sure if my new Tundra has the system, as I can't see any JBL decals in my interior. I own an 07 Tundra Crewmax 4x4 with the TRD Offroad package and have a 6-disc CD changer with the speaker in the centre above the deck. Can anyone tell me if this is/isn't the JBL setup?

Please don't bash, I actually did try to figure it out for myself and am now thoroughly confused.

Thanks in advance.

Killer,

Look at upper right corner of headunit, does it say JBL? If you have a JBL system you will need a wiring harness that is compatible with the JBL amp. Otherwise, a standard Toyota wiring harness will suffice. Hope this helps.

I was in the process of changing out all my speakers, subs and amps until the suspension, wheel and tire mod bug hit me. So far the stock JBL speakers have been satisfactory. Much better than when the stock radio were pushing the speakers.

My installer actually did the hack. Allows use of DVD too. He says it was a very easy and common hack. Here's a link. The hack is in there somewhere. It's a must-do. AVIC411.com :: View Forum - General: D-Series

Just bought mine today. Got the bluetooth, ipod cable, XM radio with the traffic, HD radio, back-up camera, the auxillary cable to hook up a gaming console, and a new ipod. Supposed to arrive this Friday.

The lady told me no. I don't think she'll notice. She says my truck is #1 in my life. How did she know?

I just bought my truck last week and I have everything possible but the nav and there was no option for HD Radio. My old truck had an aftermarket HD radio and I tell you... I miss it soooooo much. Is there an upgrade available? Anyone have any info on aftermarket HD radio upgrades that will work through the original head unit??
