I don't see why they wouldn't considering they sell out with the limited production but they have made dumber changes like getting rid of any interior storage in the Crewmax. :dunno:
I was told by my local dealer the Pro will not be made next year. Just talking to the lot manager no sales pitch was given to get me in on this year. He basically told me it is going to go due to the intuitive cruise control and pre collision stuff can not be integrated in the Pro grille.
A toyota corporate rep visiting a dealership told me the Tundra TRD Pro was not going to be offered in 2018. He said something to the effect that the third party company that has some part in the completion of the Pro will no longer be available after the 2017 production run. I asked the dealership closer to me if that was true, and he said they were told the same thing. It's kind of hard to believe, but in a supply chain, anything can happen.
What third party would have an effect on the Pros being built? Bilstein shocks? Switch it over to Fox shocks like the Tacoma. The exhaust? Hell anyone can make a muffler sound good. The leather seats? The grill? The bedside? Point being, there is nothing on the Pro that couldn't easily be switched to another manufacturer.
Seven brand new trucks this year. The specialty trucks are selling like crazy. Look at the success of the Raptor and now Dodge is trying to one up the Ford. Chevy has 5 specialty trucks. My local Ford dealer has seven Shelby Fords on his front lot. Beautiful trucks. WTF is Toyota doing? I read somewhere, there will be three TRDs. The entry level is the Sport. What will the other two be? I can tell you this, the technology in the Raptor is first rate. Current TRD Pro can't come close. I really want a Raptor buster. That said, I'm three or four years from a new Tundra so, I hope they build the truck I want.
The raptor is highly overrated, like nearly everything ford puts out there. They are great for a couple years then every get weak and cheap feeling. I don't care what that V6 puts out, it doesn't last. My friends is a year old, and feels like a beat up old truck, and he doesn't do anything but drive to work.
Oh I hear ya. I'm not arguing with anybody . I just understand the manufacturers game because of where I worked in the system. Ford goes for flash up front, for the sales, and a couple years of bliss. Then it all goes to h*ll, but the loyalists ignore that part. A couple friends of mine know that all too well, so the get two year leases, and stay happy.
I want the Pro to continue and always be the best, but who knows what will happen. For all we know the discontinued Pro thing may just be a propaganda campaign by toyota. You have to look deep into the supply chains to figure that out, and I just don't have the time or energy anymore to do that.
I'm saying money wise platinum then having then to change everything out to get a pro.. It adds up.. Plus your not paying it off over 60 months.. Im getting a cap too which is another right out of pocket expense. Being able to finance a truck that is basically finished besides cap/steps is what I need
Platinum not offered in double cab or anything but drab colors.
EDIT: ok after receiving the dreaded thumbs down I researched better and indeed the Platinum is offered in Barcelona Red and Blazing Blue. Not drab or too unimaginative.
I required the 6 1/2 foot bed of the double cab to carry some of our track equipment. That removed the Platinum and 1794 as options. And to my eyes a Crewmax looks less like a truck, reminds me of a four door Porsche. Wanted a sedan and a sports car, got neither.
I enjoy distinctive colors, especially ones that don't show road grime. When I just stumbled across a dbl cab PRO in Inferno it was an instant decision.
Focus groups are archaic technology from before the days even telephones existed. Why not crowdsource from places where people that like and own Tundras gather? Maybe even online, I'm sure someone could find such a place?
Seriously though, the Tundra product manager needs to be taken out to the woodshed. Of course that assumes Toyota wants the brand to grow, seems like they are content selling out their small runs of pickups. What do I know, I bought one too.:nerd:

Focus groups have evolved and are carefully selected. They are interviewed and fill out extensive questionnaires. Its a highly scientific sample group, designed to capture the preferences of the masses, not us individuals. I don't like them. They don't represent me.
That response in that link tells me the Tundra is getting overhauled in 2019......
(If you understand the precedent, the TRD Pro Tacoma was around until '15, wasn't released in '16, then when the new Tacoma came out in '17 it came back)
Well, I'm glad I jumped at my 2017 Cement DC. Was kind of holding out to see how much the 2018's were changed but with the changes I saw, I knew I should try to buy a 2017.
So I think the new tundra in 2020 will get this motor and transmission combo from the Lexus LC.
Copied form the wiki:
"The 2UR-GSE 5.0-liter V8 powering the Lexus LC 500 is an updated version of the engine found in the RC F & GS F. The engine is a naturally-aspirated 32-valve V8, and features D-4S direct fuel injection, Atkinson cycle operation, and optimized VVT-i. The unit produces 471 horsepower at 7100 rpm, 398 lb.-ft of torque at 4800 rpm, and allows the car to reach 60 miles per hour in under 4.5 seconds. Attached to the 2UR-GSE engine is a Direct Shift 10-speed automatic transmission, marking the first time a 10-speed transmission has been used in a luxury vehicle.[17]"
Obiviously they'll detune to run on 87 octane and retune the transmission for the truck weight and towing. I think they'd have a bullet proof setup.
