Gas Mileage

Just bought new Tundra 5.7(d-cab,4x4,TRD) on Friday. Have about 400 miles and the trip com. showing an average of 16.2. The miles are a mix of city and highway. Just wanted to know what everyone else is getting.

my advice as a member of this forum, measuring the exact fuel mileage of these trucks is like trying to descover, when was the first prostitute was born. the only way to get humanly close, is to methodicly measure the exact location of the fuel level everytime you refill, if it's off by an 1/2'', you could be a gallon off your figures. I know fuel mileage is one of your concerns, good fuel mileage in a 1/2 ton, 5400lbs 4x4 truck, shouldn't be, it wont happen. trust me, you can lose a lot of hair and sleep over this, so if you are content with your purchase and can afford to feed it, just enjoy the beast. just rember this, the 5.7 is a hostile engine, to enjoy the beauty of it, you have to open it lungs, that takes dino, if you have the 5.7, you bought it for a reason, i'll give you one guess. life is short, get living.

When I was in the Army in the 70's , I met one of her Great-great Granddaughters. I agree w/ Firecrew, if you bought this truck for gas mileage, well you should've got a 4 cylinder anything. This discussion even comes up in the boat forum. Now there is a waste of fossil fuels...and I love every minute of it!

You all are getting pretty impressive #'s I barely squeeze 300 miles on a tank and I have the 5.7 crewmax 4 x 2. How are your driving habits? I do an occasional mashing on surface streets, but on the highway, I do about 70mph. Oh and by the way I use 87 octane from Costco.

I did not buy a truck for gas mileage, but I did buy THIS truck because of the promise of good fuel economy (class wise at least). Both the Titan and the Ford F150 were specifically eliminated from consideration because of low fuel economy numbers.

My mpg numbers were pegged in the low 15's for the first several tanks - all on Chevron regular. I decided to try Chevron's mid-grade and the mileage increase was significant. I'm now getting in the low 17's. Goal is 18 which will beat my previous rides numbers and stretch out fuel stops to once a week (I need 375 miles a tank to do that). I think I can hit that mark with synthetic oil.

Now - I'm lucky enough to be able to afford gas (at least at today's levels), but I'm also wise enough to know that every extra dollar I put in the tank has to come from some where. And that some where is generally my disposable income. That income fuels my motorcycle habit, pays for breakfast on SMR's, and will soon cover the cost of park fees for the new motocross bikes. So you can dismiss the mileage calculations all you want, but the cost of gas is a significant out lay and should be considered at all times.

I drive 300 miles per week for work and if i can get one tank per week im happy, so far i have been able to, I have need a couple of post that indacate that if i change the air cleaner setup i will increase my mileage by about 1 -3 per mgp that will help. But overall I am happy and love my truck the way it is.
