I bought an 08 double cab 4x4.
I am on my third tank of gas and only getting 10.1 mpg in the city. i have been driving it like an old lady also, jsut to see what kind of mileage i will get. i was assured 17 mpg. Yes, i did purchase this truck because I am a toyota fan. I loved my previous one. can anyone tell me if and when the mileage will get better. oh yeah, I live in Canada and am driving in an average of -20 degrees C tks |

yeah im only at 650miles on mine... each time i fill up my gas milage gets a little better as its breaking in. im going for the "hard break in" which i've had good results with keeping tight tolerances in the cylinders on other motors. about another 2000 miles and over to synthetic it goes

i have an 07 dc 5.7l with less than 1000 miles on it. the first tank i put 370 miles on it before the the little light came on, which i thought was great. although my computer average is almost always in the high 13`s. but i didnt buy it for the fuel economy...i bought it because its a freakin beast. and i love the looks of it.

I have to agree that if you buy a Tundra you shouldn't expect compact car fuel economy, but at the same time the Tundra's are getting better fuel mileage than Dodge, Chevy, and Ford. Of course that also depends on how the driver drives the truck too, I know when I get my Tundra next weekend that first tank of gas is going to go pretty quick, just seeing what this truck can really do.

I am new to the forums and to get this out first with out getting bashed. i have a 07 Titan 4x4. this is my second Titan. I had a 05 before 2 wheel drive, i traded it in due to high mileage. that truck was great. eve with a 6" lift and 33" tires i will still gettin 16 mpg and towed great. installed TB spacer, cat back, and cold air intake and that thing waas just fast enough for me with great towing power.
now my 07 to say is disappointing is a understatemet. This all could be dealership service issues because they can not seem to fix the issue's even on the wife's 350 Z First off the A/C was acting up and had a mind of its own and would shut off, or hit full blast air for no reason at all and the only way to fix it was shut it off then turn it on again then the controlls would come back. anyway I tried to tow my 4400 pound tow hauler and talking about struggling man it had a heck of a time, it would take 3/4 of a tank to drive 100 miles, 26 gallons to fill up each time. I coulod get 315 to 320 miles on a tank of gas on my 05, 23 gallons on the average. now my 07 I am lucky to get 260 on 25.5 gallons. during normal driving it would always down shift even if I only give it just a little more gas to speed up a minor amount. Anway what I was wondering is guys with the 2 wheel drive and the 4 wheel drive, how many miles are you getting with standard truck and people with lifted trucks and say 33 and 35" tall tires. How many gallons does it take to fill up ? How is normal driving does Tundra seem to down shift allot just to speed up slightly ? How is the towing, what kind of weight and how well is driving, do you seem to have to down shift allot to stay at 70 MPH. please do not get me wrong I am so fed up with the 07 and Tom peocock because they have goofs for technicians but i have been seriously considering trading to a Toyota but before I do I wanted to know how everyone else was doing on these issue's. I do not buy a truck based on fuel economy but woujld like to get the best of both worlds atleast a decent average. I can sacrafice fuel economy for power but getting 10 MPG and no towing or power is begining to irritate me. I have found great deals on Tundra and ready to pull the trigger on a Crewmax 5.7 but if I still will only get 300 miles on 26 gallons it might not be much of a advantage to take a loss on my Titan being so new. Constructive info would be greatly appreciated, I love the new Tundra and even drove one ( which I should not have have) because I love the power and feel but really need to know how every one else is doing on towing and fuel economy and how many gallons it takes to fill up Sorry I tried to attach a picture but it seems to be to big and will not let me here is a picture of my new titan |

I just bought an 08 5.7L double cab.
the power is great, and it will tow pretty much anything without any trouble. if i use the tow button, the mileage hardly changes. I only have 600 miles on it, so it is breaking in and I live in Ontario where our average temp lately is -30C. I am getting about 11-12 mpg in town, as these are mostly short trips. I do plan on adding a cold air intake in the near future but I am waiting to break it in a bit more. I highly recommend the tundra. Best of luck to you. |

I only have one word of caution if your using the onboard computor as your reference for you MPG. I have found with mine that the conversion when switching form L/Litres to MPG is in fact using the USA conversion number rather than Canadian. This is Candain bought tundra to boot?????????? In the manual it suggests both ENGLISH and US Conversion factors can be programed in the system. EASY TO CONFIRM Switch between AVG L/100kms and AVG MPG on computer readout do a hand calculation using the following factor. Canadian Conversion = (AVG L/ 100kms to CAN AVG MPG) is (282.481 divided by ( *** ) L/100 kms). American Conversion ( AVG L/100kms to US AVG MPG ) is (235.2146 divided by ( ***) L/100kms) One thing I do know is when I'm up to speed on the hwy 100km/hr I avg 21 mpg even with wrong conversion. once I enter city driving the AVG drops like a rock. However I suspect some of drop is due to the fact the dealer at my last oil change for some reason used 5W30w oil ??? ![]() |

I got the Double Cab TUNDRA Grade model, to have the bench front seat. Tons of froom in the back even with the double cab. Has more leg room in the back than my 1988 F-250 Super-Cab did. I will be taking her in to have the bed liner sprayed in This coming Monday. |

I have noticed that my titan down shifts quite a bit while driving say 60 MPH and I want to speed up just a little, even if i just barely touch the gas pedal it immediately down shifts and the RPM's jump up to 2000 maybe 2200 from 1500. I believe allot of my loss of fuel economy may be caused by the constant down shifting. When driving the Tundra and tested the same scenario it did not seem to down shift like mine does. Which is why I was hoping to get a consensus on people trucks. How many miles do you get on a Tank, how many gallons does it usually take to fill up, is it 2 wheel drive or 4, does it have a lift and what size tires etc etc this way I can actually see how it compares to mine. I know the Tundra has tremendous amount more power than the Tundra that is for sure Thanks |

My Tundra doesn't have the onboard trip computer, so I figure my mileage with a pencil and paper just as I've always done.
I just looked at the trip computer in my jeep and its the funniest thing, I'm getting the same average in my Tundra that I was in my Jeep in the city, so it doesn't matter what I drive to work, its going to be the same either way. |
