traile brake controller

Guys,

Has anyone installed a trailer brake controller? Brands? How tough is it to install?

I do a lot of towing and I could use a trailer brake.

Thanks.

Trailer control install

I have a Tekonsha Prodigy and the install was easy (compared to my 2000 Taco). There should be a factory harness that came w/your truck. The controller harness wires up to that and the plug is underneath the kick panel on the driver side. Tekonsha provides custom or universal harnesses that you can get. They also provide the chart on their website to wire the controller for your truck. I soldered mine but butt-splice connections are probably fine. Hope it helps.

Installed the P3 today, but won't get the chance to tow with it until next weekend on a camping trip. Wanted to install it in the cubby hole at the cup-holder, but couldn't get the wire to run through the console. Kept going toward the passenger seat because of the large metal case (air handler I am guessing) behind the console. Ended up placing it directly above the gas pedal, just like they show on the YouTube video for the 2007 Tundra. It's high enough that it doesn't interfere with driving, but is a little long on the reach.

My biggest problem with the trailer brake controller I recently had intalled for my 5ver is getting it adjusted correctly. If I set the controller for highway speeds, it seems to be way off when I slow down in a city (or other stop and go environs). I'm not really happy with what I've got, but maybe that is normal behavior and I just will just have to learn to live with it and adjust. This is my first trailer brake controller, so I don't have any experience to aid me. Any suggestions?

I got my controller installed saturday tekonsha primus seems to work good I went and hooked on to my buddies camper yasterday after install and it worked good hardest part was getting the kickplate back on under the dash.. my buddie was shocked how my tundra hardly squatted when we cranked the jack up he doesnt use bars as his camper only weights 4500. he said his chevy settles down. I also got my egr superguard installed only thing left is my tonneau cover maybe tommorow or tuesday and after I get it washed and waxed and totally detailed I will get pics inside of brake controller and everything and post them.....

I installed a Tekonsha Prodigy last weekend using the Tekonsha toyota wire harness. I installed it into the small pocket right in front of my shifter where it is handy to reach the manual lever if needed. The small plastic pocket just pops right out and the controller slides into the opening. The two supplied bolts that come with the controller secure it into the opening. The total install took me only 15 minutes and no soldering, no crimping, no hassles at all!

My Prodigy stays on for a few minutes and shuts off automatically if there is no current draw. When there is no trailer hooked up I get one single dot lit up.
This is what the manual says is supposed to happen.
SO a direct answer is YES it does stay on after you turn the truck off..
