5th Wheel Brackets

Wow, just got my 5th wheel hitch installed. The bracket kit was 4 bolts and a some spacers. On my Dodge, it was that plus these large "L" shaped brackets that went around the frame. Hope this is the correct.

I installed a reese, and I had to order a "Tundra Bracket Kit" extra. It included the L brackets.
I would NOT install without the L brackets...I've actually seen a Tundra frame break at the mounting points (that's why I welded, not bolted, mine in as was recommended by someone else on this site). Tundra frames are VERY VERY thin to reduce weight.
When you pull your fiver, leave a report...I'm sorry to say I'm not too happy with mine. My Tundra is for sale (at 4 months old for a HUGE loss), and even though it has been much more reliable than my Chevy, the Chevy could handle the pin weight, where as the Tundra just can not, even with the airbags I added.

That link points to a guy using the hitch...not a 5th wheel. Completely different animals.

I think you need the L brackets since almost every brand I've checked on the net shows some sort of L bracket in their rail kit and make a big deal in the instructions about making sure you use the L brackets. Your hitch may pull right out of the bed and that endangers you and everyone else on the road.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing. I believe these came with little brackets, like 1" x 1" but not big L brackets like they used on my Dodge. Do you have a link to a kit that shows these brackets by chance? I want to print it and take it back to the place that put my hitch on and ask them about it.

If you go to any site like this:

Husky slider for 5th Wheel Hitches

you'll see the rail kits always show long L brackets that bolt to the frame. If you have nothing like this under your bed then you have a dangerous situation.

Hmm actually, don't see any large L brackets here, look at this pdf file, the Tundra is at the end.

I am still gonna check around before I tow anyway just to make sure.
