Tow Mirror Option on CM LTD

I just ordered a new CrewMax with the Tow Mirror option, which resulted in a several hundred dollar credit. However, the dealer says that some of the "standard" features are deleted when Tow Mirrors are ordered. I found the note below somewhere on the Internet (sorry, I can't remember where):

"Memory Package: power driver seat memory, outside mirrors memory, power tilt/telescopic steering wheel with memory (not available with tow mirrors)."

This is a little confusing... It sounds like the "memory" features are deleted; but it also sounds like maybe the power tilt/telescopic steering wheel has also been deleted.

Has anyone ordered the Tow Mirrors and know whether the power driver seat and power tilt/.telescopic steering wheel are still installed, and just the "memory" is deleted. Or, did I just order a Tundra without the power driver seat and/or power tilt/telescopic steering wheel?

Thanks, in advance...

That makes no sense since tow mirrors are the only telescopic mirrors out there.

It doesn't make sense to me that the power seat and steering wheel adjustments would be deleted; that's why I figured that someone has already been through doing this and could enlighten me.

However, I guess I will know in a week or two; and I'll let you guys know what actually gets deleted. The dealer has ordered two trucks with the options I want -- one with tow mirrors and one without; so I guess one of them will fit our needs.

Perhaps it's got to do with the systems required to run these two options may conflict. Either the computer, or wiring harness can't support both? Speculation only of course

Updated 05/08/08:

Found a Tundra CM LTD at the dealer that had factory tow mirrors installed. For the $780 credit by ordering the tow mirrors instead of the "standard" mirrors, the items deleted are the multiple driver "memory" settings for the power seat and mirrors, and the electric adjustments on the tilt/telescopic steering wheel (and memory).

In other words, the power seats still work, but each driver has to readjust the positions from the previous driver (no memory).

Similarly, the tow mirrors are still remote controlled, and the turn signals and heaters still work, but each driver has to readjust the positions from the previous driver (no memory).

And, the steering wheel still tilts and telescopes, but the adjustment is manual, not electric. There is a lever on the bottom of the steering column that lowers to releases the steering wheel lock, which allows the driver to manually tilt and telescope the steering wheel to the desired position. Then, the lever is returned to the "locked" position to lock the steering wheel in place.

Since my wife and I do not normally move the seat, steering wheel or mirrors when switching drivers, this setup will work great for us; and it saves us $780. The tow mirrors telescope out from the truck body about an extra mirror width from the standard mirrors, which is much better for towing our relatively wide loads.

It's hard for me to believe that no one has wondered about this option before, but I hope this helps any future buyers confused about the tow mirrors.

Our Tundra is supposed to be delivered the last week in May, so we are getting anxious now. Can't wait for the first roadtrip!

Yea, I'm in the same boat. I was told that only the power tilt was removed. I did not read up on it. It is somewhat disappointing but I am sure that I can live with it as I will be towing a travel trailer and won't be switching drivers often enough to use presets.

My truck should be here in about a week or so!

Alexandertg4,

From the posts on this subject, it appears there is an active market for people trading standard mirrors for tow mirrors, and vice versa.

I called the local Toyota dealer and they said that there is a TSB on the mirrors that if your truck did not come with them from the factory and you add them, they could vibrate and cause rattles.

Thumbs up towing mirrors

The dealer swapped out the mirror's on my 08 CrewMax X-SP to towing mirrors as part of my deal, no problems with them so far. I retained all functions. The towing mirror's are great not only for towing but everyday driving.

It's an option/appearance package offered in the SET region. Different wheels, carbon fiber dash, etc.
