What will my "little lightweight" boat be like ?

I believe my boat, motor, and trailer weighs about 1300 lbs, with a tongue weight of maybe 100 lbs.

Of course I'm hoping my truck forgets its back there, as I make LOTS of 200 mile round trips for fishing..... and I work as little as humanly possible (just enough to support my fishing addiction :-)
My sponsors cover most of my fishing supplies, but gas is the real killer !

I guess what I'm asking here is this:

With a really light boat, 95% freeway driving, and cruise control pegged at 59mph, what do you guys think the best possible mileage I could hope for might be, with my reg cab, short bed, 5.7L Tundra ??? Oh, and 6 spd auto

BTW, I plan to add a Magnaflow exhaust, a cold air intake, and better plugs... plus maybe will use synthetic oil too, so I can get more horse power ! No, just kidding :-) All to hopefully add a few more MPG's....

Is 18mpg while pulling my little boat, just wishful thinking ?

BTW, my little, over-worked, flat worn out Tacoma with the 2.4, 4 cylinder, is lucky to get 18 mpg right now ! I think it used to get 21, when it was new....

Ah Fish sweet, I didn't know you had a regular cab man. I love the regular cab! Have you seen "T-bone480"s regular cab with a 6" lift and 37's?

I agree. Keep your right foot under control and I think it's reasonable for you to see 18mpg on the highway with your little boat after it breaks in.

The mileage on my wife's '07 5.7L got better and better until about 20k miles. For the last 50k miles, the mileage hasn't varied more than 1.5mpg (95% highway miles @ 70mph).

you will do better without cruise control, let it fade going uphill and accell going down.

You should be able to get 18. Last weekend I used our crewmax to pull a 12ft. utility trailer to help my sister and brother-in-law to move. I filled up after we were done moving their stuff and checked my mileage and filled up again once I got home (about 85 miles). I did exactly what alreadydead said to do....keep your foot in it a little to pick up speed going downhill and don't give it anymore gas going back uphill. You will lose speed going up, put if you do it right, you will be at the speed you want when you reach the top. I got 18.7mpg this trip. I also kept the transmission in the manual mode and kept the tranny in the highest gear possible. The tranny wants to downshift if you let off the gas going downhill (engine braking--> but causes higher RPM's and more fuel consumption.

Long story short....you should be able to get 18 if you take it easy.

I get 16.5 mpg towing a couple of scooters (1400 lbs total) with cruise control set at 65 mph. Wish I could get 18.7.

I am not sure how heavy the trailer is, but it was empty and I had the ramp laying down on the floor of the trailer so there was about 0 wind resistance. It helps when you can sort of coast down the hills and watch the instantaneous mileage say 99.9mpg.
