Question Cargo Carrier

Anyone have a Stowaway2 hitch mounted cargo carrier? If so, are you happy with it? Thinking about getting one to keep cargo dry and not compromise bed space. I have a CM so the bed is pretty small and a traditional toolbox will eat up alot of what there is. I am also curious if the swingaway model has enough clearance to drop the tailgate.

Sorry, don't have an answer, but another question:

Anyone ever seen a cargo carrier for kayaks, that would stand them up vertical?

I made one myself. I used a basket type cargo carrier. I mounted it on a "double" hitch receiver (it is a thing you put in your hitch receiver to use a bike carrier and tow a trailer at the same time). The cargo carrier went in the bottom hole (where the trailer hitch would normally go), then in the top hole I use an "extend a bed" (a thing that goes in a hitch receiver to haul wood etc that is longer than your bed) in the vertical configuration to mount the top of the kayaks. Worked like a charm.

Your boats will not like you if you drive highway-speed. They don't drag too much in a normal roof mount (they DO try to fly) but vertical? They'll fold or distort. It'll only be a matter of time before you find-out what they won't go under, to say nothing of your gas mileage with that kind of drag. You can cram gear duffles in a roof-mounted boat (use a hatch cover) but your center of gravity changes, and a Tupperware boat will be even more prone to distortion with stuff in it.

I haul mine and my wife's behind a large travel trailer. No wind/distortion when vertical, and they are shorter than the travel trailer, so it would have to hit something first!!!

That's how I want to haul mine, behind a travel trailer. They should be fine back there.
