Timbrens

Anyone here every install and use Timbrens. I'm wondering how hard they are to install, and if they seriously harden the ride quality.

I had the Timbren Bump stops on my Traiblazer. You don't feel or notice them unless you have a load heavy enough to squat them to the stops but they DO make the truck feel much more stable and the ARE a pain to install!

Okay, installed the Timbrens...

but how much space should there be between the timbren and frame? There is about 4 inches on mine, and they came with no spacers.

I just installed mine the other day, and I took pictures, so I'll start a new thread here later today with the pics.

Oh, and on the Tundra, they are VERY EASY to install. Much easier than, say, changing the oil (if you have changed the oil on the 5.7, you know what I'm talking about). Just jack up the truck, loosen 8 bolts, remove the bump stop and replace with the Timbrens, then retorque the 8 axle u bolts, and it's that easy.

I have installed Timbrens before on my 04 GM 4X4. I installed them in about 20 minutes. I would never recommened them again! Ture, they did their job when the truck was loaded, but when it wasn't loaded, the truck's suspension was real stiff. Unloaded, I only had 1.5'' clearence between the axle and Timbren. Any little bump in the road you would definetly feel it. I realize that this was a GM and not the Tundra, but I would consider something different.

Timbrens are great on a Tundra

Tundra's and Timbrens are a perfect match. Absolutely NO difference unloaded in the ride even on these Michigan (rated worst in the country) roads.

Timbrens are only heavy duty bump stops. The will have NO effect when the truck is unloaded as the frame will not make contact with the bumb stops unless under heavy load and my GM Truck and GM SUV had more clearance than that and the Tundra even more still...

The Timbren Aeon rubber springs are awesome. I have put them on all my trucks for the last 5 years. They do not affect the ride at all until you load up your truck with some weight, then they go to work and supplement the leaf springs.

Want to thank you all for the info. I am saving a lot of money as I was ready to install $900 worth of air bags,I'm convinced the timbren and a helper spring will do the job. I understand the air bag will increse up to 5000#, But i don't need a 5 ton truck, only a 1 ton.
