Gooseneck trailers

Does anyone have any experience with gooseneck trailers and the Tundra. I'm looking at purchasing a double cab Tundra with a 5 1/2 foot bed. I was told at a trailer dealer that if I tow with a gooseneck, I have to put an extension on the gooseneck to set it back further, or else I will hit the gooseneck with the top of the Tundra cab. Any ideas??

The Tundra double cab has a 6 1/2 foot bed not a 5.5 bed. The Crew Max has the 5.5 foot bed. I see lots and lots of people towing goose necks with short bed trucks of all different makes. I have never seen one with an extension that I can remember. I towed a goose neck with my 01 Dodge short bed and had no issues. Same bed length as the Tundra Double Cab, 6.5 feet. Figure out where the ball in the bed will be placed. Then measure diagonally from the trailer neck to the leading left or right edge of the trailer. Then see if you have clearence for the cab from the ball.

I tow a gooseneck flatbed trailer with no problems. There is nothing extending to the front of the hitch which would mean that the bed length does not matter. Where some people have trouble is that on most camper trailers there is a bed over the hitch and it extends forward of the hitch. This could hit the back of the cab while turning.
By the way, gooseneck and 5th wheel hitches are NOT the same thing. I prefer gooseneck as they can articulate in all directions. Most flatbeds and horse/cattle trailers are gooseneck. Most campers are 5th wheel. Gooseneck has just a ball in the middle of the bed. It is similar to the ball you would use on the hitch that is behind your bumper. 5th wheel is a large plate that has a notch in it. It looks just like the hitch on a semi, only smaller.
