2008 Crew Max

I need some input from 08 Crew Max owners. I am currently driving a 2005 Titan SE. I have an 8000 lb camper that I tow with an 1100lb golf cart in the bed. My question is, is there anyone out there with the Crew Max that is hauling a golf cart in the bed? With the bed being that short the back tires will sit on the tailgate and I am concerned with how it will handle? Can it handle this much weight? I read about putting a sheet of ply wood under the tires to distribute the weight to the bed but I am still concerned. If anyone has any pictures they can show me or tell me about please contact me ASAP. I am looking to buy in the next couple of weeks, but with the bed being so short I may have to stick with the 08 Titan LONGGGGG BED. haha....Even tho I do like the Tundra better. Thanks for you input.

I can't really speak by experience as to the tailgate's ability to support,(although I think it would) but you may want to make sure you can tow a camper with the tailgate down. I have a 07 Crewmax and I tow a 28' 6500# trailer and I definitely could not tow with the tailgate down. If I drop the tailgate it would strike the trailer jack - resulting in a huge dent and secondly, even if it cleared, I am not sure I would have adequate clearance when making tight turns.

I picked up a book on the 08 Tundra CrewMax and it states that the Max payload on this truck is 1680lbs? Is the payload the max weight of everything in the bed including the passengers? I did check the clearance on the tailgate for my camper front jack, I have the electric jack that is handle free and sits down lower than a regular jack handle.

Payload does include passengers, any other cargo and the tonge weight of the trailer as well. I could not tow any of the trailers I have towed with my crew max with the tailgate down either.
