Lightbulb Nervous about TT purchase

I am in the process of looking/buying a 2006 Gulf Stream Gulf Breeze Z26TRS TT. It is a 26' with a rear slide out and a 4 bunk bunkhouse in the front. It weighs about 7400lbs. I have never pulled anything other then a pop-up. What is everyones thoughts on pulling/backing up a TT with this TV.

I will be purchasing the Prodigy Brake Controller in the next day or so. What is the range that everyone is seeing their brake controller set to?

You do have the new style Tundra with the 5.7 correct?? If that is what you have then it should pull it fine. Backing up is a snap if you are experienced at it. Doesn't matter what tow vehicle you have if you aren't.

I believe there are other guys on here that have the same or very similar trailer and they are having no issues.

I would recommend an equalizer hitch with sway bars though. Make sure your ball mount and ball are rated for that much weight. Most ball mounts and balls you buy at the local parts store are only rated for 6,000lbs and 500lbs tounge weight.

I tow a 24' trailer with no equalizer or sway bars and it pulls just fine. It weighs about 2,000 less than the one you are looking at though.

I don't have a Prodigy. I have the time delayed Valley Journey 2-8 HD brake controller. The Prodigy is better but I don't know what setting you need on that one.
Good Luck!!

No problem then. That's about the same as mine only 2' longer.

I pull a 28' Jayco with a slide out. It weighs approximately 6500# dry. I use a weight distribution hitch along with a sway bar and I have absolutely no problems towing. I also have the Prodigy brake controller. I usually set mine around 3 to 4. It varies from time to time. My prodigy has some type of pendulum inside that increases the amps based on how hard the brakes are hit. I have no complaints. I have a 07 Crewmax with a 5.7

I tow a 32', 8,700lb TT with a slide-out and a front profile like a barn up some pretty steep mountain roads, and I'm starting out from my home at 4,600 feet. The 5.7 does a great job and I can out-haul just about anything but big diesels.

The truck does work a little in the mountain, but doesn't come close to the engine or trans overheating. On the flats I hardly know the trailer is back there.

I have a 26 ft Aerolite camper with a rear slide and 4 bunks in front. Weight is 4600 pounds. I pull it with my Crewmax and it tows very easily down the freeway. I also towed this trailer with an 03 Sequoia and towed fine. I also tow a 27 ft enclosed snowmobile trailer which weighs about 7500 loaded. Again now problems. My snowmobile trailer actually tows easier than my camper but is lower and narrower.
