My Towing Experience

I did my first towing with my 07 CM 5.7 with TRD package yesterday. I had to deliver a car to someone about 150 miles away. Generally hilly area with one or two steep inclines.

Travel trailer wt: 2000 lbs.
Car wt: 4600 lbs.

I averaged 11.1 MPG doing 65-70 for the trip down and 13.7 for the trip back. I played with using the sport transmission to downshift on the hills to get more power or use the engine as as break. Cruising at 65-70 the truck felt like it had nothing behind it. I think I got more surprised because every time I would look back, the car I was towing was in the rear view mirror.

I'm planning on buying a trailer and ATV soon as well as some Seadoo's for the summer (it's nice being divorced) so I'm excited since apparantly, this thing tows more than sufficiently for what I'm going to use it for.

Sea-Doo's at Lake Norman....don't get any better'n that....unless you got a Yamaha I've been very impressed with my towing experience (last summer) Twice to Norris and once to Cumberland. It can tow the Queen Mary....probably need the weight distributing hitch though

There has been some talk this weekend about what I am going to purchase since I am Florida on a fishing trip. We talked about a smaller boat than what my buddy as (19-21 ft) possibly to do some trolling with and some other options that I could tow down here.

However, we towed my buddy's 28 ft Proline fishing boat from the yard to the slip. I let him drove since it was his boat. He remarked about how nice the truck pulled and how it handled at 35-40 going down US-1.

No problems putting the boat in for the most part. We had to back up a little more and the guy at the ramp was concerned that we wouldn't be able to get the trailer out because it was low tide and we had to back up farther than normal. But it pulled it out no problem.

Overall, the truck handled the load as expected.

A 28' ProLine! Now that's what I'm talkin about! That's a boat!

This little 23' Yamaha doesn't even make the Tundra break a sweat. It's like a pimple on a gnat's ass! Here we are at FlatHollow Marina (Norris) Some of the best vacations ever!
