Trailer Hitch specs

Hey guys need help from those of you that have a factory trailer hitch. Just bought an 07 dc Tundra with the sport appearance package. Since it had the towing package delete.I had the dealer install a hitch but after bringin it home I read the specs on the hitch and it stated a 500 lb tongue weight with a 5000lb max tow rate. Is this the same hitch you have? They also tried to wire my drawtite brake control to the truck and of course it isnt working. I do not plan on pulling more than 7000lbs. but I wonder if they gave me a cheaper hitch. Even without the factory tow package it is rated to haul up to 8400lbs. Love the truck. Been a die-hard Chevy guys for years. God will it fly!!!Thanks for your input.

I don't think the factory towing package hitch will work on the sport model. I might be wrong but I am pretty sure that is what I read. I have an 08 DC 4x4 with the factory towing package and it is rated to tow 10,300lbs. I have the Toyota factory ball mount and it is rated at 11,000lbs with 1,100lbs of tounge wieght. It appears that they installed a light duty class III hitch on your truck. I wouldn't tow 7,000lbs with that setup if it is only rated for 5,000lbs. Don't forget to check the rating on the actual ball. Most are only rated for 5,000 or 6,000lbs. You really need to look around to find one rated higher than that. I have a convert-a-ball and it is rated for 10,000lbs in 1 7/8, 2 & 2 5/16. I have another stainless 2 5/16 with a 1 1/4 shank that is rated for 12,000lbs just in case I pull the max and I have come close once. All the compenets, reciever hitch, ball mount, ball mount pin and ball need to meet or exceed your max tow rating to tow at that level.

Shouldn't be to hard to correct your brake controller if it is wired incorrectly.

the dealer sent my truck out to have the prodigy installed to a local trailer place. they installed it wrong. connected the headlight wire to the ground wire. the brake controller worked, until I turned the headlights on.

I had the dealer install the same hitch on my sport appearance package. They claim the factory hitch will not fit due to the roll pan bumper so they use the class 3 hitch instead. You should be alright as long as you tow less than 5,000 lbs. They also said that if they put the stock hitch on even with the standard bumper that they have to remove the bed of the truck due to it mounting half way up the frame. It is the only bummer about getting the sport package but I was fine with a less adequate hitch, all I ever tow is 2 motorcycles and 2 jet ski's.

I also could not complain too much about the class 3 hitch because I flammed them in the survey because they say the tow package is standard. I told them I was happy except for not having a hitch. The sales manager called to ask why I was not happy so he had me come in and the dealer installed the hitch that we have for free.

You probably wouldn't want the "factory" hitch in this case, even if it did fit. It retails for over $1300...

You got ripped off by the hitch installer. You need a heavy duty Class IV receiver. You shouldn't pull that trailer with that class III hitch, although I have more than maxed out the tow capacity of my Jeep several times its not recommended due to the high possibility of a hitch and/or receiver failure, which can cause injury or death. PLEASE get the right hitch installed before you, or someone near and dear to you gets hurt.

Trailer specs

Thanks for the replies. It seems that with the sport appearance package I am limited to the class 3 hitch. Or at least through the Toyota dealership.I had the parts guy check on it for me. I dont tow all that often but you would think that they would offer a different hitch. I am sure the aftemarket will offer one . I know there is some leeway over the factory specs ,ill just have to be careful what I tow. Thanks again.

I may be wrong but in addition to a factory hitch, I think your truck does not have the tow package axle ratio (4.30:1) and no auxiliary tranny cooler. Those items are deleted with the SAP.

Tow Hitch Specs Aftermarket

I called UHAUL and JC Whitney about aftermarket hitch receivers, and none of them have current specifications for aftermarket Class IV hitches for the Tundras currently so your going to be stuck with a Class III hitch until the specs are available for builders to make a Class IV aftermarket hitch.

Does hidden hitch make one yet?

I do not tow more than 5k, but the oem hitch on a sport looks kinda lame, makes my ass look fat..

drawtite

Drawtite hitch part no 41935 fits good if you are not using the TRD sway bar. I believe this is a Class V hitch and the reason I installed it on my RCSB SAP is to stiffen the rear frame. Works great. Heavy, weighs 85 lbs. It just have a tight fit between the plastic bumper cover and the hitch.
