I just picked up a Crew Max Limited TRD and will be towing an Outback 29RLS 9600 lb GVW (as soon as I buy it). In the meantime I'm will be pulling our Jay Feather 25Z for the rest of this trip.
We're out of Green Valley, AZ but I bought the Tundra in Idaho Falls, ID cause the dealer was hungry. I'm curious as to the hill pulling ability in this wt range. Say 6% grades at 6,000 ft elevation, what speeds and gears do you use. Curently, my Jeep HEMI runs 55 easily at 4200 rpm in 2nd gear up to 65 at 4800 rpm so that's my baseline. Also, where do you mount the brake controller. Mine is a Prodigy and I have to have the dealer switch it from the Jeep to the tundra Monday.

I also live in AZ. Are you familiar with the drive from Payson to Woods Canyon lake on the Mogollon rim? That is a pretty steep climb. Not sure of the grade. The elevation is also around 6000. I pulled a 23' trailer about 8000lbs (heavily loaded) and also a full load in the truck bed. Held 2nd gear doing about 65MPH. For comparison, the owner of this trailer can only do the same hill at 50MPH in his 3/4 ton chevy (gas) with 35" tires.
I mounted my prodigy controller under the dash on the right side of the steering wheel. There is a pre-wired plug on the left side of the driver's footwell. The adapter should be in the glove box of your truck. I definitely recommend installing air bags. I put in AirLift 5000 bags and onboard compressor. See my thread about this.

It is steeper than Phx to Flagstaff. RPM was about 5400 (I think)
