Towing and TRD Package

Should I get the TRD package on my new Tundra? I am looking at buying a new Tundra DC 5.7 to tow a 26' travel trailer max GVWR 7500 lbs, tongue wt 600 to 700 lbs. Would there be any advantage to towing with this package on the truck; such as leveling the load or maybe giving more control? Would there be a loss in payload capacity? If so, would it be worth the gain or should I just wait and see how the vehicle tows and then decide if I need a similiar upgrade later?

I cant really tell you theres any differencefor towing, but if your thinking of upgrading the suspension already I would say dont get the TRD and use that money to put towards the new parts.

If you are looking at a DC Ltd 4x4, I don't no about others, the TRD package lists for $70. Outside of the shocks, you get engine and fuel tank skid plates and front tow hooks. No big deal, but I think the skid plates are worth the money and you probably have a better chance of selling the Bilsteins if you upgrade. Just a thought.

I have a Crewmax 5.7 and 4x4 with the TRD Off Road package and I regularly tow a 30 foot travel trailer - approx. 6500# dry. I absolutely have no problems or sag with the TRD setup. The truck sits nice and level with the proper settings on my weight distribution hitch. I can't speak as to whether there are any advantages to the TRD, but it works for me. In addition, I prefer the TRD Off Road package because I personally think its a plus when it comes time to sell.

I use to own a 2000 Tundra withthe towing package and towed 6000 to 7000 pound trailers. When the truck got up to about 40,000 miles the shocks were shot. I replaced them with Bilstiens and it towed better than ever. When I purchased my Crewmax, the TRD package was a must for the shocks alone. The standard shocks are not very good over time when towing. I also had the same thing happen with my 1998 Tacoma towing smaller trailers.

Thanks for all the great information, and insight to your experiences. I still haven't made up my mind. Good information has me leaning towards the TRD. I guess the one thing I don't like is the tires are an off road tire in the TRD package. I would prefer HWY tires for quieter ride since 99% of my driving will be HWY. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it and will soon go to the dealer to deal. Oh what fun that will be!

I got the TRD mainly for the fog lights, skid plates but especially for the kick-ass wheels

I have the TRD package. The tires are not loud. It is amazing how well this truck handles. It feels more secure going through curves and hills than most cars. It is really amazing. The BF goodrich tires with the TRD package are still passenger tires. Even the BFG AT's aren't that loud on the highway.

Just got a new 2007 Tundra, with the towing package,, the off road package, and the 4.7L. Am going to be towing a trailer with 2 lawnmowers, and snowthrower in the winter. I hope i have enough power with the 4.7L,,, of should i have got the 5L?. Luv this truck though,,, get looks from Chevy, Dodge and Ford Drivers,,, This is my 1st big truck,, been drivin Toyotas, (Camry, Celica, and Corolla),, for years now.

Besides more power the 5.7 gets better mileage. Can't figure out why the 4.7 is even offered...

Rex747- you'll have plenty of power. My 05 with 4.7 has pulled a load of atv's, coolers full of my favorite beverages and lots of gas-about 5,000 lbs on the trailer. You may not be winning any races, but the 4.7 is still a good motor. But Rod67 is right- I get better mileage with my 5.7 with 1500 miles on it than I do with the 4.7 with 16000.
