Unhappy Hauling in the bed

I have a 2006 toyota tundra double cab. Over the past weekend I was hauling my wife yamaha rhino in the bed and I unloaded the rhino and saw the tailgate was bent. I went down to my toyota dealer and show them and they really did not say much.I also looked in the owners manual for a load amount on the tailgate and found not a thing. The rhino only hangs on the tailgate 14 inch. All the wight is over the rear axle and in the bed. The truck is made out of very chep metal.

How do you know he was a flamer? Perhaps he had a legitimate concern. If he told the story correctly about what the dealer told him, the dealer did not handle it right.

To flame or Not to flame, that is not the question...It seems that too much weight was on the tailgate. I'm confused about the 14 inch overhang on the tailgate...did he mean non-weight bearing overhang or back tires on the tailgate? If the back wheels are on the tailgate...one pothole will stress the whole assembly. Could be a loading mistake too. I've only ever loaded motorcycles, but I've seen Quad Runners and Wave Runners in beds. Watched three drunks put a Wave Runner in a POS Chevy once. I think I seen em on a Jerry Spinger episode once- very amusing

off topic of Tundra's but funny redneck loading. I saw a dodge dakota with 3 quads in the bed. All 3 were vertical. The hitch was practically dragging the ground :-)

another off topic question. That can't be good to be sloshing the gas and oil when they transport quads vertically

Very interesting scenario...glad I am looking around the site more. I put a Polaris ATV (~ 400 lbs) in the bed of mine this past weekend...noticed that the tailgate was dented in from loading. I wasnt going to mention anything here until I saw your post. Very thin metal on the tailgate, made me question hauling stuff in the bed.

ramps made to sit on the edge of the tailgate. The tailgate is pushed in on the side towards the bed, not on the ramp side.

I agree, I posted in the complaint section one time that I thought the sheet metal was too thin. I noticed this during a waxing expidition... Still love the truck but it does have some design flaws.. and manufacturing flaws..

But I figured it would have some problems because it was new generation! Next years will be better and the 2009 will be awsome!!

A Rhino in the bed? Holy cow. Thats gotta be around 1000 lbs on the tailgate until its loaded. I didnt even know they would fit....

I was about to mention the same exact thing. I've always used a 5/8" piece of plywood that I back with a roll of non-skid neoprene liner like you use in tool boxes and on RV trailer shelves.

Use spray contact cement to glue it on. This keeps the plywood from moving around.

This simple fix will distribute the load and you won't have a problem loading/unloading anything. I've done it with every truck I've owned and never suffered so much as a scratch on the tailgate.

Well I weigh 200 pounds and I've stood on the bed of my truck and I don't have any damage at all...So the weight limit for the tailgate has to be over that.
