Did someone say 1 TON?!?!?

Yep, I did it....
Hauled some tile the other day. I loaded 40 boxes of 18 inch porcelain tile in the back of my truck. Wasn't sure of how much weight there was, but I know I had a 3 inch drop in suspension!!! Yeah, the tires were pretty much my shock absorbers! So I hauled the load about 15 miles, and it drove pretty well! Still had good acceleration. Of course, I was easy on the pedal though. The truck handled the load quite nicely! I've hauled some heavy tile loads in a 3/4 ton Dodge cargo van, and my old Chevy Silverado ext cab 1/2 ton. I felt alot more secure with the TUNDRA. It really drove well! So tonight I brought a box home and weighed it. Each box is 53.5 lbs. So times 40 boxes equals 2140lbs!!!! Over a ton! And the same day I went back and got another 40 boxes, for a second trip. I still have another 40 to pick up yet. I drove it up a steep inclined driveway without a problem and without 4 WD also. Very impressed with the truck!
Pictures for everyone to see...

Her she is FULLY loaded

Here's the load

Here's the before and after suspension drops

And the rear bumper

And a shot of the bed gap (no change)

Ha, ha sorry for the side view!!!

So, I am not encouraging anyone to go out and overload their trucks, but just wanted to show what they can handle...

Your having way too much fun with this. Air bags might help if this is going to be a regular thing

Did you hit any large bumps? I hauled 1800 lbs and noticed the truck would bottom out on the rubber stops at every bump.
I think the truck needs heavier shocks!

Shocks controle bounce. Try air bags or over load springs.

I had about 230 gallons of water (2300 lbs?) in a 350 gallon tank in the back of my double cab 4x4 w/offroad. I didn't grab any pictures, but there was about 3/4" space on top of the rubber suspension stops. Truck handled it very well, no complaints. Won't do it again, just because with 100+ gallons worth of air space in the tank the water 'surged' and pushed me around a bit. Again no problems but it was an uncomfortable feeling. Tank is now installed on top of new utility trailer! I also towed about 6400lbs of trailer and OSB home the other night, I have a pretty steep gravel hill to climb just before my house, my old Ford wouldn't have done it without being in 4x4 low, the Tundra did it in 2wdr without a complaint. I love this truck!

most of the drive was highway. Some of it was dirt road, pretty smooth though. The bumps were more noticeable, but I drove pretty carefully since this was my first heavy load in the truck. I have hauled over limit loads many times before in other vehicles. But the TUNDRA handled very nicely so far!
The liner was thrown in by my dealer at a local shop, looks like Line-X, but has a different label by the shop. Can't remember right now, but I'll get a pic of it for everyone.
I do like the step tubes. Plenty of foot space on them. Came with the truck when I got it. Definitely more bulky looking than some aftermarket ones, but my wife definitly appreciates them!

Gee!
Such a big Heavy Duty truck, I'd hope it could carry that much weight.

I'll tell you trick though, if your carring maximum weight load it more forward, until it is as least centered over the rear axle.

I once had the back of my 1976 Ford E-150 van filled SOLID with pressure treated Railroad ties (the kind you use in a garden) about 4000+ pounds, plus 3 people, close to 2 1/2 tons total, I'm sure. the E-150 was a half ton van. No problems, only time I ever saw noticable spring deflection, though. The van spent it's whole life carring motocycles and towing my boat.

Some american half-tons pickups were only rated to carry 666 pounds in the bed, I know, however. But the Toyota sould do a least as well as my old Van, properly loaded. The van cost $5,950 though, top that!

Bet you didn't have any bed bounce, LOL.

And you're right about not encouraging anyone to overload their truck... Not a good idea. Especially if something happens like an accident. That's a big time law suit that your insurance won't even cover.

Personally I think I'd just make a few extra trips. I mean what the Hell, it's a good excuse to drive your truck more, right?
