What kind of grease is everyone using to lube the ujoints on the driveshafts? How much are you pumping in and how often? Any other grease points on the truck other than those? Thanks.
NLGI2. Was using Mobil1 until I couldn't get it locally. Switched to Lucas red n tacky #2 recently. Been greasing the drive shafts every oil change except during towing season, then I double up. Probably overkill but it's easy enough so why not. I can do it without jacks or ramps and only takes 10 minutes. Most times 3-5 pumps on each zerk is enough to start pushing out old grease, then stop. If you pump to much, you will get a lot of sling over everything.
The books calls for lithium grease for all but the center zerk which calls for Moly. I use Valvoline and have two grease guns, one with Moly grease and one lithium both are NGLI #2 .
I assumed my dealer was doing this as part of the Toyota maintenance of course they weren't. So now I do it every oil change and my oil changes myself.
I think Redline CV2 is a great grease, but it does use a non-soap based thickener. Toyota specs an NLGI 2 Lithium grease. I would research if the Redline is compatible with the factory grease, just because it would be difficult to flush the old grease fully.
Is it ok to use the same grease on all the zerks as long as it has moly?
